I'm looking at updating my spotting scope at the moment I have a Nikon sky and earth 20x50 I'm looking at a Vortex 20-60x80 Skyline I'm guessing it would be a lot more scope than my Nikon
would this scope be a good scope to get? is there any others around in the $300 range? (I must add I would buy this from SWFA but they are unable to send international I'm in Australia)
the scope will be used for range work only it would be nice to be able to see bullet holes (30 cal) at 300m
am I expecting to much?

Under $300 I would suggest the Theron Saker 60 mm scope. It will be a noticeable step up from your current scope in terms of optical performance. Excellent apparent sharpness and color fringing control...which means you should be able to see very fine detail. Under $300 it would certainly be my first choice.

There are always ways around that. I just ordered an eyepiece for a British forum member and had it shipped to my house first. Shipped it out to him this morning. It cost an extra $10 for the less than direct route. I would have no problem doing the same thing for you.

The Skyline is an 80 mm scope while the Saker is a 60 mm unit. Theoretically the Saker should be sharper because of the ED glass but the Skyline should be brighter because of the larger objective. Of course the Saker is also lighter and more portable. Two things come to mind when thinking of the Skyline. One, take a look at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Living Bird Spotting scope review from back in 2008. They did not rate the Skyline too highly.

Two, the 80 mm version of the Saker is called the Goshawk and it is very similar to the Skyline ED.

Hope this helps.

I am in Canada and I had a Theron Saker sent to me here, if you call Pat at Predator Optics, I'm sure you could work something out.  Good luck.

Yeah, I think they are similar in more ways than looks.
