I have been looking at upgrading the scope on my heavy barrel Ruger 22-250( for varmint hunting, currrently have a older redfield 3-9), Looking at spending $2-300 + or -.  Don't know if I should go with a varable power with or without AO? Really don't know how much I would use the AO? Also want to stay with my current rings and mounts if all possible. I have a Nikon Buckmaster on another gun and like it, so thats kind of what I have looked at so far. What are the pros of the Monarch over the Buckmaster, betterglass and light gathering? Thanks for any help out there!

Monarch has better glass than Buckmaster.  With that having been said, the new Buckmaster is pretty nice, although still inferior to the Monarch.  For other options in your price range, cosider Burris Fullfield II and Sightron S2.

For a little more money you can look at Bushnell Elite 4200 which I think is a bit better than above mentioned scopes, optically (that's what I have on my 22-250 varminter).

koskin, thanks for the reply, for awhile there I didn't think I would get any replies. Since I've been in the hunt for a new scope I have seen alot discussion on the Bushnell Elite 4200, I'm going to do alittle more reading on them. I was almost convinced in getting the Nikon Monarch 3-9AO and then  I checked out a new store in town and the owner took the  time to show and explain a few things to me. I now leaning towards the Leupold 4.5-14AO with the Boone and Crockett receptacle. Thanks again!
