On that site there is another map showing the soil temps. Last week the soil temps didn't drop below 100 at night in some areas of OK. 115 -120 during the day. Keeps the bare footed WV women in the house. Hard to get any plowing done.

I left the office at midnight and it was 102 F. There is not any relief after sundown any more. Officially it was only 114 F at 5:00 pm. Several stations on the weather underground had 118 F. My car still held 118 F after driving for 15 miles. Supposed to be hotter today. No break of triple digits in sight on the 8 Day planner. The heat is pushing the Armadillos out of the fields to up around the house where the sprinklers keep a little moisture in the ground. 2 of them destroyed one of the flower beds to dig under the deck. I caught them when they came out last night and got both of them with the 22. I hate Armadillos.

It is really something else, especially when you're not used to it. Yesterday here in central Missouri was 105 with a heat index of 112. We went on a hokey pirate ship cruise for the kids in the morning and I kept imagining what it felt like to be trapped in the hold of a West African slaver or one of those sailboats on the Nile. Nothing like being fully clothed and wearing body armor though so I can't complain...but I am staying hydrated.

Not at this moment, but that could changeWhistling
It was a great place, and the house was neat, lots of land with a small river runnig along side of it. It was the kind of place I dreamed of owning. Just wasn't in the cards.
I couldn't begin to imagine what it would be like in that house as hot as it's been. When I heard vandals burned the house down, the whole place lost it's appeal to me. I would liked to have had some pictures of that place, it was unique.

Nope.
I was still in grade school when I was last there, and it was remote then. The area had built up and my cousin's in-laws had passed away, so no one lived there and it had gone down. The local kids used it to party at, and you know what happens then.
I don't remember how much land there was, but from the house you couldn't lay eyes on land they didn't own. The house sat on a small hill with fields and pastures on 3 sides with large hills after that. The neat thing about the house was the crows nest as they called it. A small bedroom that poked up from the top of the roof with windows on all 4 sides. From the crows nest you could see almost the whole place, and they would shoot coyotes from there. There were other interesting things about the house,  but the crows nest was my favorite.
I do remember that on one visit it was really really hot and they didn't have AC or indoor plumbing. Had to cool off in the river at night. I also got caught in the outhouse during a thunderstorm.
That ranch was the inspiration for my current place, except I don't have a crows nest, but I do have AC and indoor plumbing.

It was at 126 F I had to drive 6 miles to put up a sign in Broken Arrow. This is when I arrived about 4:30 pm.
They had a shower up north of Tulsa near the airport. So the official temp will not be this high Only 114 F I think. There is more concrete down here and no shower has occured. The car read the same after I got back to the office. BF where is this cooling stream????

The media around hear is always making a crises out of the weather. "Oh the temperature and humidity are dangerously hot and record breaking", they will say. I check the temp. when I leave work at 5 PM and when I get home in the country after a 30 minute drive; it's at least 5-10 degrees cooler at home. So our media is making a mountain out of a mole hill. However in 3_tens case, it's not mearly hot, it's really most sincerely HOT.

The funny thing about the October MG Shoot at Knob Creek is watching people from different parts of the country (and world) and how they dress for the weather. That time of year the temperature can vary greatly in both weather patterns, and daily temperatures. On a day that I might be comfortable in a longsleeve shirt, I've seen people walking around in heavy coats that I would wear in January. Course I've also seen floks walking around in shorts and t-shirts too. Makes me wonder where they came from.
Then there is Kenny, doesn't matter what time of year or temperature it is, he's wearing shorts. If it's really hot, he's wearing a tank top. If it's really cold, he wears a t-shirt without the sleeves. If it's really, really cold (0 degrees F. or lower) he wears a t-shirt with short sleeves.

It is funny how you get accustom to temeratures. Speaking of which it is supposed to be 108 here today.

Today's predicted high is 108.

The record for this date is 106.

If the record is broken, it will be the 5th consecutive day.

Today will be the 35th consecutive day of triple-digit highs.

The record is 42 consecutive days.

The American Motors, Ambassador was the first car produced in America that had airconditioning as standard equipment, and that was in 1968.

Having the AC serviced might be cheaper.
In that kind of heat it will be hard for almost any AC to cool a building below 20* the outside temp.

The End is Near! The End is Near! A gray sludge fell from the sky like rain. All the ashes from the fires of the past 2 weeks just west of Tulsa. 69 structures burned last night and today in one fire near Terlton. Terlton , Oilton, Mannford, Hallet, and parts of Cleveland were evacuated this afternoon. 111F temps and 30+ MPH winds coupled with the drought combined into quite a firestorm. When the rain hit it smelled like smoke and ash. The rain is much needed. Prayers for all the families that have lost there homes over the past week. There are more 90s than 100s in the forcast over the comming week. YEA!

Thunderstorms in the Texas panhandle and Oklahoma could ruin our shot at breaking the triple-digit record set in 1980, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Thursday morning.

Saturday’s high is now expected to reach only 99 degrees, said meteorologist Jason Dunn.

As of Thursday, Dallas-Fort Worth had recorded 40 straight triple-digit days. The temperature is expected to top 100 again today, and Friday's forecast calls for another day of triple-digit temperatures. If we hit 100 on Friday, we'll tie the record of 42 straight days, set in the horrific summer of 1980.

But Saturday might be another story.

"We're talking about one degree,” Dunn said. “If there were no record involved, it would be no big deal.”

Dunn said thunderstorms popping up in the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma could provide just enough cloud cover in North Texas to cool temperatures, which have been 9 to 12 degrees above normal this month.

“It’s a favorable setup for those to move in our general direction,” he said.

Still, Dunn said not to expect much, if any, rain with the system.

Thursday night into Friday morning, and again Friday night into Saturday morning, areas to the west and north of Dallas-Fort Worth may see a 10 to 20 percent chance of rain, Dunn said.

But, after the brief "cool" spell, expect more of what we've seen since July 2 -- hot, Dunn said.

Highs Sunday through Thursday are expected to reach 102 to 104, with overnight lows at 81 to 84, Dunn said.

Today's forecast high is 103. The temperature hit 104 on Wednesday, making it the 40th day in a row with highs of 100 degrees or higher.

"In other words, hot, dry weather," meteorologist Joe Harris said.

He attributed Friday's "cooler" forecast of 100 to "an upper-level high sitting over North Texas that is going to shift west and weaken slightly, resulting in temperatures being just a little bit cooler."

The 42-day streak was June 23 through Aug. 3, 1980. The current streak began July 2, but it really took hold this month, when the average high has been 106.6 degrees.

"Everybody's cheering to keep the record going," Harris said. "They're saying, 'Let's do it. Let's make it 42, 43.' "

He understands that some people, excited about bragging rights, may be disappointed to come so close to the record but miss.

But he doubts that many people are calling to break the record of 69 overall 100-degree days, also set in 1980.

"Nobody in their right mind wants to beat that record," Harris said. "That's a hateful record."

Wednesday was this year's 47th 100-degree day, or the fifth-most on record. Today would make it 48, tying 1956 for fourth.

Just a little. Personally I am just saying if the next week is supposed to be 102+ we might as well make saturdays 99 a 100+ and break the record instead of tying it. If we do hit saturday we have another 5 days to tack onto the new record for sure.

The temp.s are in the low, low 70s now, and only going to 82*. I need a sweater; not really, but it's a change.
