Yesterday I went out with a friend to the range. He has a 7m with a Busnell 6500 w/rainguard. I had my 30-06 with a Nikon Monarch. It started to rain, so like the old fools we are we moved out from under the cover, in order to try the rainguard. I must admit in those conditions it sure made a difference. I am still trying to decide what scope to put on my 300wsm, and I have to act soon as my kid is biting at the bit for the 30-06 which I promised to him. Any other mid highline scopes come with something like rainguard? It appears the Z5 Swarovski doesn't have it which was my pick on the high end. Just want to check them out, as I think it's a nice feature.

Pretty sure the Leica scopes have hydrophobic coatings too. Maybe Sightrons upper stuff ???

The Sightron Big Sky scopes also have a hydrophobic coating.

Thanks, realy like the coating. The closest to what I want in Zeiss has a 56 bell, a bit to big for a bush/ mountain gun. Thought maybe minox might, won't buy leupold for personal reasons. Can't tell if Burris does. I will have a look at Sightron, any others? I want something in 2-3 by 12 to 18 with a bell 44mm or under. i am probably just getting to anal about this scope. I wish I hadn't seen the difference the rainguard made first hand. I would even buy another monarch in 3-12 if it had it. I found my other one very good, and very tough for the money.

I use the Nikon Fog eliminator wipes on my non-rain coated optics with great success.

Give them a try - they are fairly cheap.

Thanks but the wipes are not what I want. It will be something esle to carry. I am surprised more people don't have it. Most of the big game areas I know of in North America, have weather factors. I would think europe wouldn't be much different. I didn't think I would be considering another Bushy, but. Realy liked the idea behind the Ballistic Turret on the Swaro,  with easy color markings, which was leaning me there, but am starting to hear that they are plastic and don't take the bush, bumps and bruises to well.

I have 3 of the SII/Big Sky scopes and they work well in liquid conditions. The Burris Six X series of scopes also have a "Storm Coat" coating which works very well also. I believe the newer Black Diamond and XTR scopes have this coating as well. I had 2 Six X scopes and they were great scopes but were just to big and heavy when combined with the larger heavier 30mm rings for the mountain rifles they were on. They were replaced with the SII/Big Sky scopes which are much lighter, have just as good of glass, and cost less. Of course you are familiar with the Bushnell Elite scopes which including the 6500 series also have "Rainguard". From there your budget needs to be able to accommodate the Leica or higher end Zeiss to get any sort of hydrophobic coating.

+1 SII Big Sky. I have 2 of them. You get a lot of scope for the $. Sightron was offering a $75 rebate earlier this year when I bought my 2nd one, but it may have expired by now. Check their website.
