My old bino's gave up the other day.
After scooting a little around, i boiled it all down to two brands. As it´s my # 2 binos for the car, i don't wan't to spend a fortune.
Should i put my money in a :  Nikon Sporter 8x42 EX or in a Vortex Crossfire 8x42 ???????

It looks great, but it's not on the European market yet, at least not what i can find on the internet.
Anyway.. What i can judge from US prices it will be more expensive than what i whish to spend for my # 2 bino when it hits EU.
But thank's for your suggestion.Wink

Personally, I would have neither one.  There are too many decent low priced roofs with phase correction to, IMO, waste money on a non phase corrected roof.  I know the Crossfire is not phase coated, and I don't think the Nikon you mention is either (if somebody can correct that I will gladly stand corrected too Smile).  My personal experience with both is limited.  Mostly because they both suck and neither pass the first view test for me to deem them worthy of further effort.  A Monarch would be a better binocular in the Nikon lineup and the Diamondback would be a better choice in the Vortex line.  I won't comment further as I don't know what you can get in Europe.

I've got in in my head you are looking over there at what is marketed here as the Trailblazer.

Steve: There's no doubt i get better binocullars in the models you mention. Like i wrote i need an extra pair that not cost a fortune.
They will be posted in my truck.
You are right about the name Sporter / Trailblazer.

Claus,

I understand about not needing to spend a lot of money.  I've been there most of my life Smile.  However, I too keep binoculars in my truck 24/7/365.  There is never a time I don't have at least one binocular in there (usually two).  Personally I could not, even in my wildest imagination, think of having something on the order of a Vortex Crossfire in there.  I use glass from the truck a lot around the ranch and I have no less need for decent optics from the seat of my pickup checking cows on the far side of the pasture than I do after I've busted my butt to the top of the ridge and am trying to see if anything in that bunch of deer over there is worth the extra effort to get closer.  That might tend to color my thinking on the subject of truck binos a bit.

I do think the Nikon here is a better choice than the Crossfire.  Diamondbacks are still cheap too.  If you really want a really good and cheap roof binocular that has a decent field, and is phase corrected, look at the Zen Ray Vista, although it might be hard to get in Europe.  You might also check Frank D's comments on the Zhumel Short barrel binocular here too.  If you can get Vortex there, you might also keep in mind the Vortex Raptor porro prism.  I have the 6.5x32 and it is a really nice glass.

 Steve:
We don´t have the same expections to our " Truck binos" Smile as we don´t have the same needs.
You use yours professionally, i don't.
I got some great Zeiss binos i use for hunting. That´s where i have my need for good quality bino's.
I have checked around, and it doesn't seem like i have any luck finding the Zen ray Vista over here.

If they are a bang around pair of binos, get something with a good warranty.
