Hello all.    I am new to the forum and would like to start by asking your advice.  The last few rifle/scope combo's I have put together are no brainers for accuracy by using Rem 700 actions and Leupold/Swarovski scope combo's.  I want to try and put together an inexpensive and accurate rifle/scope package.  I have purchased the Savage 10FP in .308 Win for about $450.  I now need some good but economic optics to complete the package.  Looking for 2.5x10 var or 10-14 fixed, mil-dot rec, 40mm max objective.  The package will not be used on a day to day basis but only for recreation.  Any help would be appreciated.

Bushnell 3200 fixed 10 power 42MM objective  mil-dot SWFA sells it for right at $200 if memory serves. Can't beat the clarity for the price.

I've got a Savage FP 10 in .308  too and it will shoot 1/3 MOA @100 yards off a bipod with handloads.  I went with a cheesy scope and am looking to upgade also.  You will find that the weak link on the Savage is the trigger.  A better trigger and stock will give you tighter groups.

Why does no one like the Accu-trigger.  Play with it a little.  I love mine and everyone I let fire my Savage loves the hell out of the my Accu-Trigger.  I've had other people ask me if anyone else other than Savage make that trigger, because they want one for their rifle.  I guess it goes back to the old thing if it doesn't cost more than $500 or isn't "CUSTOM" its automatically a POS, whatever.  I agree that the factory synthetic stock needs replacing but the trigger at least on mine is wonderful.

Mithran,

I bought my 10FP  a few years ago, before the Accu-trigger was available.  I replaced the stock trigger with a Rifle Basix model and adjusted it down to about two lbs.  I have heard the the Accu-trigger is a great improvement over the older style trigger.

I've got a 110 in 300 Win Mag that will group just as well as the  10FP in .308.  Now if they only made a model in .338 Lapua Magnum with a 26" bbl you could really get some bang for your buck!

There's a lot of Savage slamming for some reason. Especially in "Tactical" circles where the 700 reigns supreme in most's eye's.

I have seen out of the box Savages smoke custom rigs at the range on more than a few occasions. They flat out shoot!!!!!

I haven't fooled with the Accutrigger much.

No pissing match intended.  Didn't realize you had that model.    By the way get the Super Sniper 10x42.

True.  I did buy a 700P because I could not stand the factory Savage stocks and the cost of buying a new stock for the savage was a bit more than the 700P cost me.
