Bought a FFP mildot scope to be used on a .300 Whisper, unsure what would be the most useful way to zero it.  Intended use is for 200 yds or less.  100 yd zero on the crosshairs, or use one of the upper mildots for 100 yd zero, etc.?  The drop at 200 yds was 4.2 mils for Rancid Coolaid, and I assume mine will be similar with subsonic rounds, which will put whatever I'm shooting at that range in the bottom of the reticle and possibly obscured to some extent.  Seems like it might be preferable to use more of the reticle by putting the closer targets in the upper part and the longer ones in the lower part.  Suggestions?

It is not uncommon with sniper scopes to zero the scope for the middle of the expected distances like zero at 500 shooting mainly 300 to 700.  If your use is mainly under 200 yds 100 would be a logical zero unless you know that there is a specific range at which your going to use it.  If you set up you shots at  80 yds but sometime shoot out to 100 then you may wish to zero at 80.  So long as you work with it and know what you will get it doesnt matter.

My whisper is zeroed at 100 yards (SS 1-4 FFP) and I know where to hold for 50-yard, 150-yard, and 200-yard shots.  As my optic is a 1-4 and subsonic hunting in thick woods/brush  requires one-shot kills, I try to stay as close to game as possible.  I haven't taken a 200-yard shot on game with the Whisper, my guess is it'd piss off anything but the smallest of animals.

A 200-yard shot on a decent sized pig is just gonna cause the squealing pig to run everything off.  Or you might get lucky and he might drop.

What scope did you get?

Initially I was looking at buying one high-end scope for the Whisper, then ended up buying a POF .308 and two scopes.  I put a Trijicon 5-20 on the .308 and a Bushnell 6-24 illum ret FFP on the Whisper.  I didn't like the Bushnell illum, found it to be unusable at night (which is when I need it), so I put that fixed and re-fixed Nitrex TR2 3-15 illum ret on it.  Although it's not my favorite scope and I'll be looking to put something else on it, it's working fine so far.  I'll be continuing to get familiar with the rifle and round while I restock my optics fund.  I have your suggestions from before, but if anything new comes around in the meantime, please let me know.
