Hi to all,

I have just bought a Marlin 336 in 30/30 caliber and I need your help in order to decide which scope to buy. Some people recommend a fixed 4x32 and other a low power variable 2-7x32 or 1.75-5 x 32 Which scope would you buy for around US$ 150? Shots shouldn't be more than 200yds

Thanks for your help,
FFVO

How about a Trijicon http://swfa.com/Trijicon-3-9x40-Accu-Point-Rifle-Scope-P12872.aspx - http://swfa.com/Trijicon-3-9x40-Accu-Point-Rifle-Scope-P12872.aspx

For $150 I would immediately check on the Vortex Viper 2X7 on sale now.....a $300 scope which is currently on sale.  Otherwise, I would put a Redfield Revolution 2X7 on it and not look back.

Plenty of good choices

Weaver k4 fixed
Vortex viper 2-7
redfield 2-7
sightron sii 4x
weaver 1-3
Burris timberline

I tend to like the compact scopes on the small actions of the 336 so that would impact my choice a lot if you don't mind the size then there are several 3-9 variables avaliable. The Viper above would probably be my 1st choice though.

I think you will be great with the Viper Ed recommended.  For your money, won't be beat.

Copy and paste this into a Google search:  Nitrex TR One 1.5-5x32

You will find a smoking deal on this scope and there is also a $50 rebate.  It is essentially the same scope as the Weaver Grand Slam.  Built in the same factory in Japan and sold under the Nitrex name.  In fact, the box says Nitrex by Weaver.  I know this because I bought one for my Marlin 336 30-30.  You get a $300 scope for $90 after the rebate.  You simply can't beat that.

Good luck.

The viper has better glass than the nitrex, IMO.  I have a 3-15 TR two and a 4-12 Viper, the Viper is hands down a better scope.

Call me crazy, but simple sounds better to me on a 336.  Fixed 4's would be good ( http://swfa.com/Weaver-4x38-Classic-K-Rifle-Scope-P5054.aspx - http://swfa.com/Weaver-4x38-Classic-K-Rifle-Scope-P5054.aspx ,  http://swfa.com/Sightron-4x32-SII-Riflescope-P9181.aspx - http://swfa.com/Sightron-4x32-SII-Riflescope-P9181.aspx ).  I also think that straight tubed scopes look hella cool on such a setup ( http://swfa.com/Weaver-1-3x20-Classic-V-Rifle-Scope-P2864.aspx - http://swfa.com/Weaver-1-3x20-Classic-V-Rifle-Scope-P2864.aspx , or a used Leupold M8 3X).

Of course, the 2-7x32 Vortex Viper that everyone will tell you about would be a good upgrade in glass over these suggestions.

I would look at a Burris 4x20 Timberland($160), Sightron SII 4x32($187), Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35($170) or the Vortex Viper($170).

Gotta agree with the 2x7x32 viper fantastic glass for the money.  Although the Diamonback 2x7x35 would also be good.  The close-out Nitrex would be nice to if you like that power range.

I have the 2-7 viper on one of my 336's, and I couldn't be happier! It is hands down the best deal going right now.

I got the 2-7x viper in yesterday.  light,  slim, clear with shipping and lens caps $190 from swfa.  can't believe the quality at this price.  should fit the rifle perfectly.

I put a 2-7 Viper on my Marlin 338mx and could not be happier.  Glass looks great to my eyes, has tracked perfect and still holding zero.  I dont know why I have not bought more of these scopes...at this price, quality, size and magnification range they are perfect for about any hunting rifle, not to mention top of the line warranty and customer service.

I like the looks of the 20mm objective scopes on a lever action, but a 2-7x32 would probably be more useful.  I've either used the weaver 1-3x20 or leupold 1-4x20 on the levers I've owned.

Sorry ffvo, when I first replied I didn't notice your $150.00 budget, with that in mind I agree with Ed Connelly, buy the Vortex Viper. IMHO with the SWFA's sale price the Viper is the best bang for your buck.
