New to this site looks good. I have a Pecar 4x81 scope serial no.38765 with what I believe to be removable reticle system. It has two 1/4" aprox screws holding the reticle adjustment knobs onto the tube and what appear to be finger grips on the edge of the reticle assembly. Bit worried about just unscrewing it without some expert advice. Can anyone help. Thanks

Hello, Aussi Hunter, and a big welcome to the O.T. site !!
You have a very premium optic in the Pecar-Berlin scope. It was a shame they went out of business.
Sounds like you indeed have one of their scopes with the changeable reticle assembly. While I have experience with their scopes, I do not have any with the interchangeable reticle assembly.
I think I have some literature in a storage closet somewhere on this system. I'll take a look and send it to you. Maybe there is something in there that can help you out.
I never quite understood the system, as I would think that once the tubes were unscrewed , there would be no way to charge the space with Nitrogen to eliminate moisture between the lenses and the reticle assembly.
If you don't have a spare reticle assembly, I don't think I would pursue taking it apart, IMHO.
I'll send that info as soon as possible.

I have that exact same model. Unless you have a replacement reticle or there is a problem don't touch it. The internals can be very delicate.

Here is the bloke to contact. Malcolm can service and/or restore most Pecars. I have had him service two and replace a broken reticle with a #8 which is all you can get these days since Pecar went out of business. From BRT shooters website. - Optical Restorers and scope repairs

Malcolm Eames repairs rifle scopes, binoculars, telescopes and microscopes at Westlake here in Brisbane. Malcolm is trained at Zeiss and has been repairing some Benchrest and other target rifle scopes recently. Riflescopes are one of the major headaches in competition Benchrest shooting today. Many brand name scopes often fail to hold zero to the standards required for Benchrest Shooting. We have had some of our own scopes looked at by Malcolm too. He can be contacted on 07-3715 5603 or 0407 007 116. -

I saw a box somewhere a long time ago that had a change-out reticle in it....Brand New.  I think that the guy in the store did not know what it was.  Naturally, I did not have any money.  Nor did I have a Pecar scope.
In the 1950s Jack O'Connor said they worked good.

I found the literature I had last night, but all it had in it was an advertisement for the reticle. There were no instructions on how to do it.
As stated above, if you do not have the extra reticle, I wouldn't advise taking it apart. The Pecar scope is a top-notch optic, as long as it's left in good operating condition.

Thanks for all your advice, I think the best is to leave it alone, I was really just checking as I advertised it for sale nearly two years ago and someone rang me on Monday morning wanting to buy it and asked if it were interchangeable reticle and or Championship model. Both of these queries caught me out so was able to get some info and you have given me the rest. Thanks again and I look foward to mare meetings on this site. David A.
