Having trouble finding proper rings and bases for my savage 116fhss. when i do a search, it wants to reroute me to the 116fss model which is different. is there a difference in the models in accordance with the mounting holes?

I believe it would only depend on whether you have the long or short action version.  There are bedding scheme differences, but that should not impact the pre-drilled receiver.  I suggest phone Savage's help line and ask, but any bases you get should specify the particular firearm.

Actually the manual has several manufacturers recommended to contact for information on mounts.  And I don't even have a Savage...

There is no difference in the mounting holes. All long actions should be the same -110,111,112,114,116.Just make sure the receiver is either flat(pre accu-trigger) or round.
Same goes for short actions two digit model numbers.
SWFA has the ones they carry listed for flat or round as do most dealers, but it is up to you to know what you have.
