Howdy all.  New member here with my first post.

I picked up a used Aimpoint CompM2 today.  The rear lens has some minor scratches.  The scratches appear to be only to the the coating of the lens.  That is, the glass itself doesn't seem to be scratched.   Even though they don't interfere with viewing, I'd like to fix them if I can.

Does anyone know how to repair the scratches?

Thanks in advance for the help...

No way to repair scratches in coating.

Carry on, enjoy the optic, don't get any more scratches on it.

RC, Thanks for the reply.  I was afraid that was going to be the answer.  I'm not very experienced with quality optics.  I also wrote Aimpoint, but have not heard back yet.

I have a product that will take the coating off of eyeglasses.  I expect it would also work on the Aimpoint.

Can you tell me what the purpose of the coating is and/or if I might just be better off removing it?

Thanks again...

DO NOT REMOVE THE COATING.

1) It is there for a number of reasons.
2) It will void any warranty you have.
3) DON'T DO IT...

Agreed, do not remove the coatings, they sharpen color and image, they do sciency thigns with light.

Do not remove the coatings!

Live with the scratches, don't make it worse trying to fix it.

Welcome to the OT Al!

Agree with above, live with it or send it back to Aimpoint but under no circumstance remove the remaining coating!

+1 with everyone else here.... If the scratches dont interfere with the view, why bother with them?....If you remove the coating, I guarantee you that will interfere with the view!

I've got some sand paper and a wooden mallet.

Just for a moment think back to when you were a kid and took a watch apart  to see how it worked - what was the end result.

Thank you all for the advice.   I went the sandpaper and mallet route.

It is much better now...
