Subject: Tasco Euro Class Scope replacement

I have a Tasco Euro Class (Made in Japan) 3x12x52 scope that is mounted on a 7mm Magnum.  Bass Pro Shops broke the scope when shipping it for me and plans on replacing the scope sicne I insured the shipment for $1,500.  With that said and since Tasco was sold since then Tasco (Bushnell) told me that they have no information on this scope as it was made before they bought them.  They gave me the number to ABO which bought the rights on the older scopes but I called them and they said that they cant help me either.  What I am looking for here in this forum is some assistance on what would be a comparable scope to the one that Bass Pro broke.  I don't want them to try and screw me over with the replacement.  I know that Bass Pro does not sell Tasco so I am pretty sure that they will not try to give a existing Tasco model.

1st, welcome to the OT,
2nd Dang that blows to hear about your scope!

I think they sell swaro, that would be a good upgrade. Are they giving you a $1500 store credit??

Bass Pro hasn't told me what their exact plan is.  They just told me to bring it back in and they were going to put a new scope on it.  So they asked me what type of scope it was and when they hear the 3x12x52 the "52" part seemed to surprise them as they don't have many like that and none of them are cheap.  I will find out on Monday as I wanted some time for research before I took it back in.

I don't know of a 52 but a 50 would be very similar.

Had a euro tasco, heavier than a brick, really good scope. A used one could be found for a couple of hundred however. Don't let them short you on the insurance refund.

Well according to Bass Pro's own site these are my options:

-  http://www.basspro.com/Nikon%C2%AE-Buckmasters%C2%AE-Rifle-Scopes/product/65011/-1158016
-  http://www.basspro.com/Swarovski-Optik-Z3-Rifle-Scopes/product/10207973/-1695607

I don't think that I can go wrong with any of these if this is the way that they will go.

You might wanna try to get them to just give you a $1500 check or gift card that way you get what you actually paid for in insurance

no kidding, if you paid for that much for insurance, you should get that much.

You have to figure some of the $1500 was the value of the rifle.   If you can get the Z3 do that but if not  consider these. They should carry these and if you are loosing 1.5x on the low end gaining 2x on the high end is a wash so they may do this :

Go for the LEUPOLD it is an AMERICAN company with a NO BULLsh*t warranty.Besides you are really paying for excise taxes and tariffs placed on the german optics.Better yet get a VX-7 LEUPOLD and pay the difference. my 2

You'll never get $1500 dollars, an insurance adjuster will be involved and don't think for a moment that they won't figure out what the true value of the scope is. If you get $500.00 consider yourself very lucky. Insurance companies are in the business of taking money, not handing it out.

Well you are right.  First off Bass Pro tried to deny that they caused the damage.  Then once I proved to them that they did damage it they tried to give me a 75 dollar scope.  After being in the store arguing with them I walked out with the Leupold VX-1 3x9x50mm.  Although this is not the scope that I would want on a 7mm Magnum I had been wanting to replace the scope on my 30-06 anyways.  So I took their offer and I will get it put on the 30-06 and then buy what I want for the 7mm Magnum.

Well, I think you got a fair deal, your damaged scope in question routinely sells for $75-$200 on EBay.  The Leupold should work out nicely on the 06 and now you have reason to buy yourself an early Christmas present.  Really glad you did get some thing of decent value.

The big fish store has not really impressed me with their gun knowledge so far they seem to carry only the middle of the road stuff nothing really cool and exotic.
