I am seriously thinking about picking up one the discounted Vipers for hunting and keeping my larger bell scopes for paper.  @ and likely hte looks and reticle of the Viper 2 to 7 X32 w/ C3 recticle.
WHo out there owns one and what do you think of her.  $170 seems like a sweetheart deal!
Give me some feedback guys!  I haven't tried the C3 ret before but it looks like just the ticket for fast and natural target acquisition and centering.

From those pictures that Brady posted of them and the reviews on them that reticle is very quick on target acuisition.

" I haven't tried the C3 ret before but it looks like just the ticket for fast and natural target acquisition and centering."

That's EXACTLY what it does.  I also find that the circle helps steady you on small targets at a distance when shooting at the lower magnifications. What the C3 seems to do is eliminate in your mind anything outside out the target area which is within the circle.  And does it fast.
I REALLY LIKE this reticle for the purposes I intend to use it for and is the reason I contacted the guys here from Vortex. I was wondering if they had plans to offer the C3 in any other scopes. But now since they're dropping the 2-7x32(only scope offering the C3)I'm wondering if they're dropping the C3 reticle all together. Never got an answer to my first concern.

  You best jump on one,Bud!

Bud - I don't have the C3. But when I purchased the Viper, I was looking for a quick acquisition reticle, close to a German #4, that would work in low light. I spent a bunch of time scrutinizing the 3 reticles on the 2-7x32 on the computer.

In the end, because the outside straight lines are significantly thicker on the dead hold reticle, that's what I got. I thought that it work work earlier and later than the other two.

I have not hunted with it yet, but I have tried it out at all times day and night. It needs very little residual light to give you an acquisition picture. I cannot compare it to the Plex or the C3, since this is the only reticle I got - but my conclusion is that it will definitely give me a quick acquisition even in low light.

FYI:-) If you decide against the C3, this is a data point for the dead hold, looking at it from an acquisition speed point of view in low light. Btw - I really like the scope - I am glad I bought it.

GLAD to hear,Bud.  And as I tell everyone else who says they're going to try one.  1st dibs if you don't like it.  Bucky   Haven't had a taker yet though.

BUT!  Is Vortex dropping the C3?  It's only available in the discontinued 2-7x32.

I ordered three Vortes Vipers a while back, two in 2-7x32 and one 3-9x40, all with the BDC reticle. When the order showed up, the two 2-7x32's had the C3 reticle, so I had an opportunity to look through the scope for a night before sending it back. Looking back, I am thinking I should have kept one scope with the C3....might have to order another before they are all gone.

For the type of hunting I do the C3 is one of the best (maybe THEE best after this season) I've come across.  I've used the #4,post and crosshair, and Leupolds Hvy Plex.  I like them all but the circle in the C3 and more specifically it's size sets it apart from the others.  I will admit that it may not turn out to be the best at absolute first and last light but we'll see.

Seems in the past few yrs there have been quite a few low powered variables that have gone to the wayside.  Remember when there were a few 1' tubed 1.5-6x42's to choose from?
Why?  Maybe it's the bigger is better mentality.  I just don't know.

That and the limited availability is why I jumped now too!  Heard a lot of nice things about the Viper line.  Several have compare the glass quality to Bushy 4200 & 6500s.  If it if just close to that quality it's still a steal!

I've got the 2-7x32Vortex Viper. I notice a bit of tunnel effect with it.  I have the BDC reticle. I have had it on several rifes including .375 H&H and 300 WSM so it is tough, and it is now on a 243 and Im not sure it will stay there but its more the right scope for that gun. Given the choice over again today I would not  buy it I would buy a second fixed 6x42 Super Sniper as I like that much better even though it is a larger scope, but it may just be that I like to dial in correction rather than hold over.

I've noticed if I mount a scope forward enough, which I don't do,I could eliminate tunnel effect in any of my scopes except one.  I've noticed as little tunnel effect with my 2-7 Viper at 4X as I do with my 4X Conquest.  So yea Pyro I notice some with the 2-7 Viper as with most scopes I've looked through and use/used. But if you have yours mounted far enough forward you just may not be noticeing it.  But I tell you what.  My M8 2.5x20 doesn't have any T/E and if I happen to get in some awkward shooting position I find I lose part of the image. I find that kind of annoying. I don't notice this with scopes having some T/E (I don't like alot of it) so TO ME I like some but not too much and I find it a bit of an advantage.  Just observations from my experiences and what I LIKE in a scope for the way I use it.  One of the most critical features I look for in a scope is edge to edge image clearity.  The edges being blurry or wavy as I move on target is one thing I can't handle.

i had to turn mine side ways to make it happen, just looking through the scope like you would do normally on any power i couldnt make it happen, even on 2x where i suspect the chances of this occurring would be at their greatest.

We have asked several times on numerous threads about that issue.  Still every time no response.  I don't think they actually know yet if it has a future and that may be why we haven't been told.  Dont' get me wrong, Scott and Sam are both A+ guys and normally fast responders but this issue is been avoided.

Probably right.  And ANOTHER low range variable bites the dust.  As for the C3?  I don't know if I'd be interested in a scope of more than 3X on the low X with one.

anybody know why they are doing away with the 2x7 it seems to have some popularity on the forum and a good scope.  With all of the hype I had to buy one at that price.  I went with the standard reticle.  I think most buy 40 and 50mm objectives these days.  I think the perception is that the smaller objectives just wont be bright enough.

Well just got mine today and looks better than I expected. Had to change my mind about which rifle to put it on though. Just perfect for my Ruger M77 MKII International with the 18.5" barrel. Haven't shot it yet but just sighting through it looks very good to me. If it shoots as good as it looks guess I'll have to grab another one for the scout.Thunbs Up
