Not knowing what you'd be willing to spend I'm going to suggest these Nikons.  I've had mine for longer than I can remember and they've been all the binoc I've needed for the woods and thickets hunting I do. This series has been one of Nikon's staples for MANY yrs (thinking since the late 80's?).  There are other brands selling  this configuration out there but these are the only compacts I have experience with.

Let me be the first of many to recommend the Leupold Yosemite 6x30.  I will follow that with the Eagle optics Raven/Vortex Raptor 6.5x32.  Those are porro prisms.  In roof Prism look at the Vortex Fury 6.5x32 or the Zen Ray ZEN ED2 7x36.  I have all of the above.  The ZEN has the widest fov and the best depth of focus, and clearly the best optics.  The Fury is not quite as good optically as the ZEN, but close.  Good wide field and somewhat smaller than the ZEN.  The Yosemite is likely the best binocular for the least money today.  The Raven/Raptor is a slightly longer version of the Yosemite.  It is a bit brighter than the Yosemite, but is a bit more money.

Also consider the Swift Eaglet 7x36.  It is a more compact binocular than the ZEN or the Fury,  It has a faster focus and a somewhat narrower fov than the Fury, but better optics.  The Vortex Diamondback 7x36 is a good candidate as well, look at is as a roof version of the Raptor.

Don't think 6-7x will loose anything to higher magnification at the woods ranges you are talking about.  You will have far better depth of field to work with with 6-7x and that will eliminate a lot of focusing.

Vortex 6x32, great binos at a great price.

I use them for bow hunting and low light hogs hunting, nothing but great things to say about them.
