Subject: Does this scope exist?

An extraordinary run of luck had me nailing a few clay birds at 200 meters with my 1895 Chilean Mauser in 7x57, holding over with the iron sights no less.

Being stubborn, I became obsessed with seeing how it would group with a scope.

After a patient few years I finally have found a suitable scout mount for it, but finding the right scope seems just as difficult.

The NcStar 2-7 is popular, and Nikon, Burris and Leupold make some 2.5x jobs but I am looking for something closer to 4 to 10x, intermediate eye relief (5 to 7 inches), parallax adjustment and a step or two above the Chinese offerings.

I can find the power or the AO or the eye relief or the right physical dimensions that will actually fit the mount and locate just clear of the straight bolt handle, but I can't seem to find all those features in one scope. There is an out-of-production Burris 10x with AO and intermediate eye relief but I can't find one at the moment.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Take a look at some of the pistol scopes. The Burris 3-12 comes to mind. http://swfa.com/Burris-3-12x32-Handgun-Scope-P272.aspx - http://swfa.com/Burris-3-12x32-Handgun-Scope-P272.aspx  It has 10" of eye relief. I have the 2-7 on an Anschutz 64 pistol that I really enjoy. See it to the left.

Hey Jeff - you have tough requirements. I don't know anything that can fit them all (but that does not mean anything:-). What I know that fits some of your requirements:
- Bushnell Elite 6500 1.25-8x32, 6" eye relief
- Sightron SI 2.5-10x44 , UP to 5" of eye relief (but maybe not for all mags)
- Leupold vxII 3-9x33 EFR: AO but only 3-4" of eye relief
- Weaver super slam 1-5x28: AO but only 4" of eye relief

Other AOs I have or know of have even less eye relief. I don't know much abt pistol scopes - the ones I know have eye relief around 10" - but 3_tens' advice might give you good hits.

I am afraid you will have to use a pistol scope for this application.

Mauser rear sight is sufficiently far away from your face where even dedicated scout scopes some times do not work.

If you need AO, your best bet is Burris 3-12x32.

Thanks, all.

I was unaware of the Burris 1.5-8. That one sounds promising. The others might work, too. Just have to see just how close I can get the scope on the mount and still clear the bolt. The rail ends up pretty short so the rings don't have much wiggle room fore and aft.

I'll post a pic when I get the final rig set up.

Thanks again,
Jeff

'Doh! I meant Bushnell Elite 1.25-8. Had Burris on the brain!
