Looking for a new scope for my sav 220.  I have a swift 3x9 on it now but cant getting good sight picture, i assume from not enough eye relief.  Hard to imagine any shots taken over 150-170 yards where I will be deer hunting. I think the Nikon Slug Hunter 1.65x5x36 w/BDC should work just fine. Im most concerned with scope holding zero and good glass.  Even if BDC does not work perfect with certain slugs, I will have hold over marks for reference. With the BDC reticle and shooting 250-260 gr saboted slugs, what distance do I zero scope at? Thank you inadvance.

Sight it in at 100yds.  I know with subsonic 12 ga loads, you sight in 2 1/2 inches high at 50 yds and it puts the slug dead center at 100 yds.  As for the hold over marks, you are going to have to figure out what the real distance of each one is by trial and error which can get really expensive with saboted shotgun slugs but by the time you get it figured out, you know your gun pretty well.

Nikon makes a line of scopes with balistic reticles designed for muzzleloaders.  Balistic reticles only work at the highest power.  In low light close to dark you will have your brightest image at 6 power with a 42mm objective.
The other alternative to correcting for trajectory is to have target/ tactical knobs and dial in correction to compensate for trajectory this is very effective. Here is a possible choice for that.
