The HD model has much improved glass and the internals are strengthened over and above the robust non-HD model. Also the adjustments are in .1 mil, so there is one less calculation if the reticle is being used for ranging.

edit for fat fingers!

Welcome

No worries, we speak typo here.

Billy summed-up the differences between regular and HD pretty well.

What you thinking of sticking it on?

I have both the HD is not only high definition glass but a heavy duty build.   While both have been designed for military use the difference is like the difference between a 15 yr old computer and one you bought yesterday.  Go with the HD and dont look back.

I will say this, I am very impressed with the new SWFA scopes.  I have both the FFP 3x9 and the 10x42 HD.  The HD model replaced a Leupy Vari - X I had on that rifle.  If your just punching paper at 100 yards you won't notice it that much.  When the range increases the optical clarity of the HD model shines.  Its repeatable and the adjustments are very accurate.

Set It next to the Leupold, Falcon Menace, Bushnell 4200, and everything about the glass is better.  Crisp and clear all the way to the edge of the scope.

hey guys thanks for the info. sure helps in making the decision alot easier.

Neilbilly- I have a rem 700 26" barrel .308 that currently has a el'cheapo peice of glass on it I picked up at walmart just to get it up and shooting.( I know!!! I should be shot with my own rifle for putting a $65.00 optic on a $1000.00 rifle! I was desprate to get out to shoot it that day!) Now I am ready to put a good optic on a good rifle and examining the time spent behind it over the cost of a optic 1 1/2 to 2 x the $ than the gun.  But frankly I am prepared to do just that just may need more time.

Sapper & Pyro- let me say thank you for your service too.

The HD should work out really nice. I haven't got to look through one of the HD models but hearing it's head and shoulders above the standard from people I believe tells a lot. I've looked through the standard 10x model and really thought it was a pretty good scope. I don't think there's ever been a better time to shop for optics. There are some really good bargains out there.

This a paper puncher, hunter, or dual purpose rig? From the nametag I'm guessing target rifle. There are several of the regulars here that shoot distance and can help ya out quite a bit with suggestions. You've bought a nice rifle, top it with something good.

Oh and if you got lucky at Wally World and got one of the Bushnell trophy models for cheap, you didn't do too bad really. "does it have antlers on the windage adjustment cap?" It's not great, but makes a decent hunting scope for poor cousins and such. Wink

10x HD update ... Due to Military retirement I don't have the Army providing me with toys to play with, and my personal collection is growing Big Grin   With that in mind I have been testing some optics with various options, Magnification ranges, SPF/FFP, Reticle styles, turrent styles, etc.   I have been working towards finding a brand I prefer where I can get various optics with identical function/controls for easy of use, muscle memory, same/similar reticles, etc.

I have determined the following are features that are "must haves"
-FFP
-Mil adjustustments .1
-Left Side Parrallax Adjust
-Enhanced Mil-Dot (EMD) style reticle
-Reset Turrents to Zero (not necessarily zero-stop)

How does this relate to the SS 10x42 HD?  When I put rounds down range with a Bushnell 4200, Falcon Menace, Leupold Vari-X, Burris Tactical, and a Nikon Buckmaster ... After several shooting sessions it was VERY obvious which scope I liked the best.  It didn't have all of the features I listed but of the scopes I had or borrowed it was by FAR the best.

No its not a Nightforce, USO, S&B, Priemer or anything of the sort.  But in my testing it outshined anything I could find in a comparible price point.  I would love to have 10k to drop on 3 custom USO's but thats not gonna happen.  I still haven't found my answer but I have narrowed it down some.

I have a Falcon Menace mounted on a .30-06 and like it quite a bit. It's not the be-all end-all of scopes, but for my intended use it does what I ask of it.

Very cool that you are getting to test drive some toys, it's past time our veterans were treated better. My next door neighbor was in the Navy and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. I see the trouble he has with the V.A. stuff and it makes me hopping mad.

Hang around and post with us and once your post count hits the required level sign-up to test drive products from SWFA. They are fine folks to deal with. Thunbs Up
