Hi everyone. Long time lurker and first time poster. I have learned alot from reading this forum. Since I value the advice on this website I wanted to know what you all thought of the Sightron  SIII Fixed 16X42? Most people I know use leupolds, nightforce, or Bushnell, so I'm not very familiar with Sightrons so I wanna know how the glass is. Also, are they durable and do they track well?

I'm attracted to the modified mildot reticle as I like to holdover to compensate for both drop and wind.
This would be for shooting my Model700 sps .308 out to 800/900 yards.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Any reason you don't like the SuperSniper 16x?

The sightron SIII will have glass worth the difference in price.  Sightron makes some of the nicest scopes coming out of Japan.   My thought on a fixed 16 power is you will either love it or hate it because in low light   42 mm divided by 16 power = 2.625 mm exit eye pupil.  Bearing in mind that 7 mm exit eye pupil is the most a young man in good health could use it will be like putting on your sunglasses as the light gets low in the evening.  If this is a daylight use target scope you may grow to love it.  Fixed power scopes are usually tough as nails and able to take more abuse than a variable.    If you can part with a tad more money I suggest the variable that way you can dial the power down to brighten the image in low light as well as use it for closer targets or hunting or to control mirage on a hot day.

I think you would really like this scope and it will do real well up against the ones your buddies have.

The Sightron is a great scope, buy with confidence.  I ran it side-by-side (the 6-24) with a 5.5-22 Nightforce and the glass was very comparable.

In that price range, it's what I'd buy, without question or hesitation.
