I finally got a chance to shoot my LR308 AP4 and realized that the muzzle flip is pretty extreme.  Not a big problem when shooting off hand or any other position, but when shooting from a bipod on a conrete bench, it was pretty bad.

Is this normal?  My only experience with ARs was with the M16A2 when I was in the Marines and this was not an issue.  I would like to tame the muzzle flip if possible, but not sure if a compensator would be do the trick.

I know that there are many here with a whole lot more experience than I have and am just looking for some wisdom.  Should I live with it since I will not be shooting from the bench that much, or try to fix it.

By the way, the rifle functioned flawlessly, no FTFs and all the magazines worked, including 3 DPMS mags and 2 MagPul mags.  I only put 60 rounds down range, but it was fun.

A muzzle brake should help to keep the muzzle from jumping as bad.  I used on on a sps tactical 308 for a while and noticed a huge difference in being able to stay on target and see the impact.  You can find anywhere brakes from 25-30 up in the hundreds of dollars.  The premise behind them is they redirect the gas so that instead of all of it going straight away from you and causing that much force back on you it directs some to the sides.  This will make the gun louder as a result but with that gun you should be wearing muggs anyway.  Your fellow shooters on the line may be annoyed but hey you have an AR10 variant what they gonna do.

I was looking at the Primary Weapons System FSC30 after reading some reviews on it.  I was concerned about making the gun louder beacuse the only range that I have access to is a TWRA range and there are a lot of hunters there, and me being a hunter also, I didn't want to tick them off.  Of course, the last time I was up there everyone was wearing hearing protection so they probably will get over it.

I am currently modifying the rifle, so I will probably order the FSC30 and take it to the gunsmith when I have him install my new rails and gas block.

Thanks for the response.

I would PM you if I could, but for some reason when I try to PM my computer closes explorer, it is a work computer so that could be the reason.  I am not sure if I am loading the bipod correctly, but I have not had this problem when shooting my bolt action 308 with a 20 inch barrel or my 7mm-08, of course that doesn't mean much.

Basically, when shooting from the bench, I make sure that I am straight behind the rifle, stand up slightly keeping the rifle against my shoulder, then sit back down, it kind puts downward and forward pressure on bipod by doing this.  If this is wrong, please educate me!

Your hitting all the right things, get directly behind it, raise your chest up off the ground shoulder the weapon and return to laying flat. Should work.
