Trijicon Accupoints - I have searched hundreds of pages of posts on multiple forums and done nothing but read for the last 2 1/2 days. I understand the elevation limitations of the 5.5-20 x 50, but for a .223 under 600 yds out of a 24" barrel should be a non-issue. I've looked through them and the glass looks great. Can any of you elaborate on why there is little favor for this scope series? I guess I'm not getting it.....Loco

This is going on a RRA AR15 with PRS stock / Versa Pod bipod.

How would it stack up against a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP?  Any thoughts/experience?

Quite frankly I love the scope. The 5-20x50 Trijicon Accupoint is a very nice scope however the issues one has to be able to live with are 50 moa of internal adjustment.  Not a problem for you in your application but not ideal for my R5 wiht at plus 30 MOA base.  The other issue is that the lines forming the post take on an odd appearance at times under different lighting conditions.  However they in no way effect performance it is merely an annoying feature of the post models that is not shared by the mil dot  and cross hair models.   The barber pole look :

I dont think the first one has been recieved yet it should be a nice scope but it is an entirely different beast even though similar.  Where Trijicon excells is that the illumination is tritium and fiber optic and so you never need batteries and it is always turned on.  I really like the glass of the Trijicon and I like the feel of the tactical knobs and power selector ring.  Some of the guys saw the Vortex at the Shot show but I have not seen it.  There is a lot to be said for FFP wiht a mil dot based reticle and a mil based tactical knob.   Truth is both scopes are probably way nicer than anything you really need so buy either of them and enjoy them or better yet buy both and pick up another rifle.   How about an R5 Mil Spec.

Thank you.  To be honest, most of the posts commenting on this scope (Accupoint) have come from you.  I genuinely want to thank you for your time and opinion, it has been very valuable to me.Bow  I should probably get some 'hands-on' time with the Vortex, as this seems like an awful lot of bang for the buck.

Many people have recommended the Nightforce NSX.  I have to be honest though, I checked out the Nightforce when I started looking about 4 months ago, and although the red lit reticle was pretty cool, it wasn't $1800 cool.  The Accupoint glass that I saw on an LAR-8 .308 perimeter rifle however was absolutely stunning.  I agree with you on the glass Urimaginaryfrnd!Big Smile

Problem is, I want to shoot in very low light to rid my property of coyotes AND learn to reach out and touch things at 600-800 yds.  The BAC/red triangle is my favorite, but will most likely fall short in both tasks.  God, I still love that glass.
Ah well, still learning.  Thanks again to all (especially Urimaginaryfrnd) for the info.  I will continue to read old posts into the wee hours of the morning - if there are any stickys/posts you can think of that would be beneficial, please send them along. - Sean
