Does anyone here own one of the Weaver GS 4.75x40 fixed power scopes? I am wondering what if it would be a good fixed power for a TC Encore Muzzleloader? I am just wondering if I would be better off with a variable Monarch or even a fixed 4x40 Monarch. I dont intend to shoot more than 150 yrds, so would the 4.75 be enough for that range and even so would it be too much for those more common 50 yrd brush shots. Its a weird power to be fixed at.

For hunting big game 4.75x is perfectly sufficient to reach out to 2-300 yards.

4.75x40 GS is an excellent scope with a very nice glass.  The only reservation that I have about it is the eye relief.  If your muzzle loader has some some kick in it, I would go for something with more eye relief.  For fixed magnification, some scopes that hove longer eye relief are:

IOR hunting 4x32 (can't beat this one for the money)

Sightron S2 4x32 (also very good and cheaper)

Burris Short Mag 4x20 (small and light and LOTS of eye relief)

Leupold FX-II 2.5x20 and 4x32 (Leupold just revised these scopes and they are quite good, although a little overpriced, IMO)

Wever K2.5 2.5x20 (inexpensive and very good for the money)

Nikon Monarch and Buckmaster 4x40 (nice enough scopes, but I do not think they offer any advantage over Sightron or IOR)
