Got a payout plus getting some more $$$ from another source...thinking of getting this together...

Remington SPS Varmint left-handed in .308...H-S Precison varmint stock (PSV097?)...EGW Picatinny scope rail...Warne Maxima rings...Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 tactical scope...Badger bolt knob...Harris Bipod 6-9 w/notches & swivel...

Opinions???

If you are willing to spend on the H-S stock, why not go Manners or McMillan or AICS?  H-S makes a good stock, but there are better (in my opinion.)

Rather than the 4200 6-24, you might consider something with a little less magnification and better glass.  I had that scope for a bit, didn't like the view above about 15X and swapped it for something else.

Also, it has limited elevation, which can cause problems for 20MOA bases or for long shots with flat bases.

For long range, it isn't the best scope.  It is serviceable, but far from ideal.

The badger bolt knob is easier to grab but not necessary.  It is "tacticool."

A pretty nice setup, but don't get the 4200 thinking it is a 100-yard scope. It isn't.

The H-S is the cheapest left handed Remington BDL varmint stock I can find plus I can get it over here in Australia. McMillans are twice the price of H-S's over here!

The max range i'll be shooting is 350m as this is the length of the range I shoot at.

I chose that scope as it suits the purpose I needed it for plus I can get Bushy Elites pretty easy over here. What about the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 scope???

I notice that Cheap Tricks "Black Betty" is similar to the setup I want to get.

I think that a 12-16 max power would be the most power you'll need. Given your range specified. Look into an IOR.... Spend a little more for the scope and get a great scope. That being said, the 4200 is still a very good scope. Just the one you specified is probably more than you will really need.

I think you'd be happy with the HS stock. Manners and McMillan are probably a little better, but I have no gripes with the HS.
Betty is the now discontinued LHVS.
I like the Varmint stock better than the LTR stock.

Since this pic was taken, I've replaced the old Remington bolt shroud and assmebly with a Callahan Aluminum Speedlock.
Way smoother........

The HS Stock can be jazzed up a bit. Do a glass bedding job and a wood insert into rear of stock. It adds a bit of solid substance.

That was the SWFA test mule.
Super Sniper went back on after that pic was taken.  Wink
It was a good scope though, none the less.

8, I've noticed that my trigger seems much smoother and lessened the trigger oull somewhat. I was at 2 and 1/4 pounds and it may be around 2 pounds now, but thats a guess.
Lock time is better too.

Good investment. Wish I'd done it sooner.

From what i've worked out is that the H-S stock you've got on Black Betty is the "medium" stock. There's the sporter style, the sporter/varmint (yours?) and the varmint. The Varmint has the thickest/biggest fore-end and is(?) the one fitted to the Remington 700 Police. Correct?

I'll be getting the varmint in left hand in either black or olive.

Keep going! Big Grin I was looking at that speedlock too.

I've found this retailer in Australia that sells on the web and they deal with this web based USA retailer Hiding and they can get me just about anything, they can get most stuff in less than 2 weeks, their prices are dirt cheap and they do overnight express postage! I've dropped atleast $1000 Australian in the last 2 months. Everything from Timney triggers, rings/bases, slings, recoil pads, sling swivels, harris swivel bipods and magazines!

AK have you looked at the HS PST038 or the Manners T4? There is a T-4 on snipershide for sale (new) for 450 USD. I like the Manners T4A.

The PST038 would be out of my budget range (it would probably cost over $1000 over here) and I probably don't think I could get manners over here...I'm just looking at the tactical page...I like a few on there!

I'm not sure which stock I have. I thought it was just a plain Jane Varmint stock.
Your probably right though.
