I just acquired a Remington Model 700 Sendero 25-06.  I want to try a Vortex product unless someone has a better option.  I was thinking of putting a Vortex Viper 4x12x40 or a 6.5x20x44 30mm.  Both are the same price but I am wondering if 6.5x20 is too much scope.  I am adding this to my Varmint hunting arsenal and the range will be 200 to 400 yards.  I would appreciate your opinions or comments

The Sendro's I've had experience with are awesome rifles. And with the 25-06 recoil is no issue. SWFA has a Vortex on its Sample List that you might like. There are many other options there in your budget range. You have a varmint arsenal and I would have to put the question back to you about too much scope. For me, I like lots of magnafication. Unless you are willing to step to a higher cost class the vortex is probably as good as the others in that price range. Stepping up could put you into Nikon, Bushnell 4200, maybe Burris or Leupold VXIII and so on. Good luck!

I have that gun in 22-250 and mounted aBushnell Elite 4200 6x24. I too like the extra power.....either will serve you well. http://swfa.com/Vortex-4-12x40-Viper-Rifle-Scope-P11230.aspx - http://swfa.com/Vortex-4-12x40-Viper-Rifle-Scope-P11230.aspx  a frien has one of these and he really likes it....

4-12 will be better if there are any close shots. The 20 power does not add that much because it really starts to bring out the limits of the glass. I am getting rid of my 20x scopes in favor of a max power in the 14x range with better glass. It is an expensive lesson to learn.
