i'm new to target shooting, it's my 4th time. actually i'm new to shooting a gun period . and just loving it!  well, i have an older bolt action Ranger 22 LR that shoots in the bulls eyes or within 1/2 in of it everytime from 25yrds with no scope and crappy open sights and am looking for a scope. what i'm thinkin is that i get a good scope for this  rifle and continue practicing at the range and down the road i can pickup a good target rifle and then put the scope i buy now on this new rifle. i dont want to cheat myself in the future by getting  crap that i wont be happy with after i put it on the rifle i buy down the road. my intention is to get into target shooting competitions.
with  sooo many options out there it just makes my head spin. any suggestions to what would be the best scope for me to buy for target competitions?

I'm thinking about ordering a Vortex crossfire 6-25x50 for a 22 build for my son.
It will be backordered for a couple of months but I can wait. Good scope for a C note.
