I was told by a Leupold custom shop tech that all Leupold scopes from the Rifleman on up were made in the US with US parts.

Can anyone tell me with 100% certainty that this is incorrect, and if it is what models and what parts are imported and from where?

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this issue and I for one would finally like to know the truth.

That is incorrect, with 100% certainty.

All parts except for the lenses are made in the US.  The lenses come from Asia.  Leupold will not say where their glass comes from, but they do say they get them from multiple sources in Asia.  All final assembly is done in the US.

Thank you. I have long understood that the lenses were imported but no one seems to be able to a name to the supplier(s).

A lot of shooters believe the lower end Leopold’s to be imported as well, I know this was incorrect as well but they seem to all "know for sure". I think it would go a long way with shooters if Leupold themselves would become a member on a few of the prominent shooting forums to dismiss many of the stories out there.

Thanks again.

Yes, it is 100% incorrect. As Ted stated, the glass comes from Asia and I'm not certain that EVERY other small part is made by Leupold or even in the US as well.

PS. We had a gentlemen a couple of years ago that posted here who's father-in-law worked for Leupold who confirmed the glass source and that is really not a big secret anymore for those who travel forums like this. On another forum there was a guy who worked for Leupold and when people started hammering away with technical questions, the guy eventually disappeared. Just saying. I was involved in one of the conversations along with koshkin where the guy from Leupold was obviously in way over his head and shoulda requested a PFD prior to venturing into deep waters.

Roy makes a valid point.  The main mechanical components are machined in their Oregon facility, but small parts like screws and o-rings are purchased.  So, who knows where those parts are made.  But, it's the same with all products.  Nowadays, I'm not certain what it means when a label says "made in ______."  What % of a given product's fabrication and/or assembly must take place in the country specified on the label before it can be considered "made" there?  Are there even any standards?

Just to be clear, I'm not bashing Leupold however, when the main component (glass) comes from outside the US it's disingenuous to say "Made in the USA" at best. Ted, IIRC, I think when this info started to become common knowledge, some folks noticed that Leupold scope boxes were now missing the Made in USA label and they switched to USA or something similar.

Leupold made a 30mm tube scope to go against the European brand scopes.Someone disassembled the 30mm Leupold which revealed it was made with just 1 inch internal components.

Their removing the "Made in the USA" sticker is quite telling.

At list price - or anywhere near - I never look to Leupold; too many better options out there, most less expensive.
