I will try to communicate this as well as possible. i have a

RRA AR-15 and getting

Benelli M4 semi auto shotgun

When i was buying my guns i did a little research and came to a confident conclusion pretty easily,  I have done twice as much research and am still not sure what to do so i have some questions.  I will shooting my ar15 100 to 300 maybe 400 yards tops.  so here are my questions (try to keep answers on a 8th grade level :)

1.  One possiblity is getting something that i can put on both the ar15 and the shotgun, but i don't know if that is doable can i take a scope on and off and still be sighted in?

2.  I have looked at everything from a leapold to triijon but am very open to suggestions?

3.  as far as budget goes i will spend some money (around 1,000) but don't want to throw money away for no reason..

4.  any suggestions or input is welcome.

What kind of shooting are you going to be doing with the Benelli?

Hunting deer with slugs? Turkeys with a full choke? Home defense?

not home defense, skeet and maybe some bird hunting

Then you won't need or want an optic on it at all, (unless possibly a Burris Fastfire.)

As for the AR- I'd suggest a 1-6 or 2.5-10 variable of some sort.
Tons of great ones out there for your fairly generous budget, and less.
Start with the new 3-9X Super Sniper and go from there as your wants dictate regarding size, weight, illumination etc.

I have a Benelli M4.  This is the sight I am going to put on it eventually. It is always on, no batteries required

For an AR, I would go with this.  http://swfa.com/Bushnell-3-9x40-Elite-4200-Rifle-Scope-P6910.aspx - http://swfa.com/Bushnell-3-9x40-Elite-4200-Rifle-Scope-P6910.aspx   I have one on an AR as does my dad and they are dandy scope for hunting and plinking.  If you want a fancier one go with the Super Sniper Variable.  http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Tactical-Riflescope-P41044.aspx - http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Tactical-Riflescope-P41044.aspx

This would be a great AR scope as well.  I have one and really like it. http://swfa.com/Sightron-125-5x20-SII-Big-Sky-Riflescope-P9152.aspx - http://swfa.com/Sightron-125-5x20-SII-Big-Sky-Riflescope-P9152.aspx
