I need some information on an older scope, circa 1950. I have acquired a Mossberg model M4D, 4x scope (3/4  tube) with a Weaver .22 cal tip off mount which I intend to mount on a Mossberg M44 US .22 cal military training rifle. I would like to remove the tip off mount.   I can of course dremel the mount but I would prefer not to.   I found a schematic for the scope    http://www.box54.com/ex2m4d.jpg - http://www.box54.com/ex2m4d.jpg

The question, what happens if I remove screw S386 and plate S795 and slide the mount off?  Do I destroy the scope or will I be able to re-attach everything without too much of a problem?

If anyone knows of a place to have the scope serviced, I'd be more than happey to send it out to be serviced and the mount removed.
Thanks for looking and your help.

BTW, check out the prices.

The parts you have mentioned are not holding the tube to the mounts now.  You have to get the mounts loose and then the problem should take care of its self.

The one part is a set screw or a pruge screw and looks to help hold the lense in place. I could not tell what the collar held in place from the drawing.  I would not monkey with either of them.

I guess I didn't make my self clear. One end of the scope is bell shaped and the mount can not slide off that way. The other end of the tube is straight but has screw S386 and plate S795 at the end. The mount will not fit over them. The mount had to be on the tube before those two items were installed, hence my question. Has anybody  worked on this type of scope and know the ramifications if I remove the screw and plate to remove the mount?
Thanks for looking
