Howdy guys,

I've been off the OT for a few weeks, been pretty busy working... but, my new 375 will be here by Friday Big Grin and I am going on a Bison hunt next Tuesday out by Fort StocktonYippee.
So, can I finagle anyone into sharing their pet loads? I have 260 grain Nosler Accubonds and 300 grain Woodleigh protected point on hand and quite a few powders, and Hornady brass.  The rifle is a custom Weatherby Mk V ClassicMark with an oil-finish French walnut stock, with a 24" Douglas premium-grade barrel, NECG express sights and a Leupy VX3 1.75-6 in Talley QR mounts. It is REAL purdy, and it should shoot I hope.

So what are your favorite loads?

Good shooting,

Texas

Three days isn't much time to work up a load, especially in a brand-new rifle but for a bison hunt, accuracy is almost completely irrelevant anyway. You might want to just pick up a box of factory ammo, sight it in and spend the rest of your time getting other things ready for your trip.
 Just a thought...

I have found 70 grains of Reloder 15 with 260-grain bullets to work great, and 75.0 of H4350 is also quite reliable. Both provide essentially factory velocities and very good accuracy in most .375's.

Ronk, you are right on point, I will have very little time to get loads worked out - but I'm off work until Tuesday so I am gonna give it a go. I do have three boxes of the Federal 260 gr. Accubond factory loads on hand if worse comes to worse. Big Grin

JB, thanks for your response! I was leaning to RL-15 based on the books, that is one powder I don't have at the moment though... I do have plenty of H4350 though, so I try that. The Hodgdon data makes it look like H380 could work ok, too, so I think that is in play also.

Anybody else? I have some VV N550, but data for that powder is not in the VV load book.

Barnes 300 gr banded solid  76 gr RL 15  (.5 under a very HOT max)  I hear this one will exit a cape buffalo shot lengthwise.Devil   I just got through loading some of these.

Factory Federal  300 gr Nosler Partition is a winner - this is the top of the food chain and for years has been the best choice in expanding bullets.

while I haven't shot the Fed factory Barnes X yet it would also be a dandy and it's a copper - no lead bullet which can be used places others cant. Actually it makes some sense to use these as they leave no lead in the meat.  http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/rifle.aspx?id=597 - http://www.federalpremium.com/products/details/rifle.aspx?id=597

I use 71 gr of H4895 with a 300 gr SGK. I will try the Partition eventually but the Sierra shoots so good it's hard to switch for my needs.
I think m'bogo would change my bullet choice.

There are a few choice powders you can use for a 375 H&H. My former 375 H&H liked RL15 and Varget the best in just about all bullet weights. For best accuracy, the actual charges will be determined by what your particular rifle likes and by your seating depths.

I think there are much better powders than 4895. I have a bunch of it is the only reason why. The other powders would fill the case more, a good thing.

Thanks, everyone for replying. As it happens I have some Varget also, but no 4895. It looks more and more like I'll do this hunt with Federal factory boolits, no time to handload. I would think 260 gr Accubonds would suffice for a bison, it must beat a flint arrow point or a 44-40 Winchester anyway! Ha! Ha!

I just gotta get out and get the scope zeroed, but man it is hot in Cowtown, USA! I wish the range opened at 6 a.m.
