We are going to start shooting 22 rimfire silhouette matches at the local range. I need a scope for this game. I know I need to be able to adjust the elevation quickly, but that's about it. I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions about power ranges, reticles, and parralex adjustment (needed or not). I'd like to keep it under $300. I've been thinking about a Simmons Pro-Hunter, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions on scopes from you 22 silhouette shooters?

I'm a benchrest guy just getting into Silhouette so I can't give you much more than general rimfire target shooting advice. First thing I'd contact the NRA for their http://www.nrahq.org/compete/nra-rule-books.asp - rulebook . Second each club will have it's own rules. I've heard of some clubs with a limit of 4x or 10x magnification although some will let you "lock down" magnification to whatever their limit is with a piece of tape so that you don't have to change scopes. Other clubs have no limits.

I do own a Simmons 6-24x44 Prohunter that I'm experimenting with as a cheap bench rest scope and so far it's doing ok. But it's so big and so lightly built that I have no faith in how well it will hold up and because I keep it at 24x for BR I'm not sure about how well it tracks. It's just hard to say with a $150 scope. Here's a http://www.steelchickens.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56:year-with-cheap-scope&catid=35:optics&Itemid=60 - good read on the subject, but just be aware that production of the Prohunter has shifted to China with a corresponding drop in quality.

As any regular here can tell you I'm a big fan of Weaver's V-Series products in the $350 and below price range. Their hunter style knobs are a bit small for target shooting and unmaked but it's a good place to start looking in your price range. In the sub 10x range I like the Weaver RV9, and my favorite scope for 50yd rimfire benchrest is their http://swfa.com/Weaver-6-24x42-Classic-V-Rifle-Scope-P588.aspx - V24 with a Varmint-Dot reticle . The duplex of the varmint-Dot is fast, the inner cross hairs are very fine and the little tiny dot pulls your eye toward the center of the cross hairs without being so large that it covers the target. The http://swfa.com/Weaver-Classic-V-Rifle-Scopes-C1813.aspx - V16 might be a nice compromise. Again these are all limited by hunter style knobs. There is just a limited selection of quality variable power scopes in your price range with both graduated target style knobs and fine crosshairs. Whatever you chose I would definitely stay away from Chinese made junk like BSA.
