Good shooting weather today in Houston, a little warm at 75* first thing in the morning but then a cool 5 mph breeze helped.  Working on a load for a new 300 RUM (Sendero with aftermarket stock and 6.5x20x50 Conquest) at 200 yards.  Starting at upper left going to lower right in order all with 200 gr Accubond

88 gr RL25 - 2966 fps
89 gr RL25 - 3075 fps
90 gr RL25 - 3118 fps
85.5 gr IMR7828SSC - 3039 fps
86.5 gr IMR7828SSC - 3090 fps
87.5 gr IMR7828SSC - 3139 fps

with the lower left the best

The 6.5 rem mag was shooting pretty good also with the RapidZ set on 12 power

Very nice, Sako.  The 85.5gr load for the 300 RUM is definitely my choice... if I get to choose.  What a difference a powder makes.

Very nice Sako.  Looks like 85.5 works real nice.

Sako, have you tried H1000?, I've loaded some for a budy of mine but really haven't done any development,  just wondering if you had any info.

OK, y'all asked for it

GUN PORN!

Actually it's not my gun but I'm working it up for a friend who is going to give it to his kid for Christmas.  Next is he wants the whole thing camo'd including the barrel, action and scope.

Knowing his kid he's gonna ask "Why did you load a 200 gr bullet and not a 150 gr or 165 gr bullet?  That would be flat shooting!".  If he does I'm gonna tell him to load his own then, dammit.  Rich kids, sheeesh!

RC, yeah I shoot at American.  You live around here?

pyro, I'm a charter member of the Heavy Bullet Mafia and don't like the TSX in the smaller calibers.  Had a bad pig experience with a pass thru not much blood.  Just waiting and on the notify list at M_I_D_W_A_Y for the 140 gr Accubonds.  Now that will be a bullet that will make that 6.5 rem mag shoot like a 270!!  Poker

LaughRoll on Floor LaughingLaugh Above..........................oh, and I want that scope. I wish Zeiss made one in 4.5-14x44 with Rapid-Z 800 and target turrets. Seems odd, but you could dial shots when you wanted precision, or use the reticle when in a hurry.

Good shooting, SM. I really liked my .300 RUM Sendero too, but it preferred 180gr. pills and RL25.

i tried to shoot 140 gr sierra game kings out of mine and i never  could seat the bullets out far enough to make mine shoot. i thought i struck gold when i tried the 130 gr accubond, until i shot the 120gr tsx. i think ive got them loaded to about 3200 and some change, hopefully im pushing them fast enough that they will work on whitetail deer.

Hey pyro, I would be concerned about the exact opposite.  You are pushing them too fast and there would be a larger possibility of penciling through.  TSX's used to be the only thing I would shoot until twice on pigs I had very little blood trails and lost the game.  This was with a very accurate 270 where I was pushing the 140 gr TSX's as fast as I could get them

These pig shots were at 100 yards broadside and there was blood at shoulder height on grass stems that finally just petered out.  IMO the hollow point in the smaller calibers is just not big enough and sometimes is partially blocked with manufacturing detritus

                              338, 308, 284, 270, 6.5

I have a friend who had the same problem and followed many threads where TSX failure were happening (that was about 2 years ago) and it was always with the smaller calibers and higher velocities.

Now if you were shooting a 120 gr Tipped Triple Shock in the 6.5 then I would say full speed ahead.  That is because the hollow point behind the blue tip is larger than the regular TSX.  Here is a 338 with the tip broken off compared to a regular TSX

So for me it is the Accubond, Scirrocco, TBBC, Interbond, Partition, A-Frame and TTSX on the smaller calibers and the regular TSX in the larger calibers.  Even then I prefer to shoot them through the shoulders and try to hit bone.  The last Elk I shot was at 252 yards with a 180 gr TSX out of a 300 win mag and there was no blood on the ground but he was DRT.

Sakomato,  I live just north of Houston and shoot at American with some regularity.

In the few years I've been shooting there I have NEVER seen anyone on the 600 yard line.  FYI: there are blackberries growing all over the berm out there (the fruit, not the electronic), go have a snack next time you are shooting.

We'll have to coordinate a shoot at American sometime.

As for hogs, they are tough little beasts, gotta take the heart, BOTH LUNGS, the spine, or the brain - else they keep on eating, pooping, and making more hogs.

im sure this is gonna sound stupid but I don't know and google isn't giving up an answer. what is flat shooting ?
I have a 300 rum myself and recently did some reloading and used a 165 grain nosler spitzer at 80 grain with imr 4350 powder. This was mostly due to it was all the place had on hand. I am always on the look out for better loads and why they are better.

umm ok, no need in laughing, I don't know online or range lingo for that matter. If the definition is anything that comes out then why even bother saying flat shooting ?

im sorry man, when people refer to "flat shooting" they are talking about a rifle that shoots a bullet at a long distance that doesnt drop much... the .300 rum and the 7rum are two of the best on the market in that dept.

so when i said what i said, it wasnt really meant to be a slap in the face, it was the truth. you rum is about as flat as they come.

That makes sence, thanks for the information. I don't mean to be stupid about it, I just didn't know what it meant and I don't know until I ask, sorry.
