good morning---where can i find reticle subtension information for bushnell 4200 elite and weaver classic v series---i guess i could just set up the scope and measure it but i don't have either optic---i am trying to decide between 4 or 5 different scopes for use with a 17hmr rifle to shoot ground squirrels, some paper and a prairie dog or two---the other scopes on my list have published reticle data---thank you

Which power range Bushnell 4200 and Weaver Classic are you considering?

the bushnell scope is: elite 4200 4-16x42 with multi-x reticle

the weaver scope is: classic "v" 4-16x42 with dual-x reticle

the other scopes on my list are several sightrons (big sky II and sII) , the zeiss conquest 4.5-14x44 with zeiss installed target turrets but really don't like reticle choices, and the kahles cl 4-12x52 with 4A reticle---the zeiss and kahles are a bit past the budget for this project but i could just "adjust the budget"---the weaver is attractive because it is the least expensive---it is hard to compare scopes when the last deciding factor for me is the reticle---almost all of my shooting will be done in good light so i would like a reticle that the fine lines subtend to about .10 moa or less at top magnification---i like the 16x scopes with the smaller objective and reticles with more space between the thick posts---so far the 4200 is at the top of the list because it is side focus/parallax but from the pictures on the bushnell web site the reticle appears to be very constrictive---as an example: i like the vortex viper v-plex wide but it is not available in their 4-12x40PA onlyin the 6.5-20's

My favorite reticle for rimfire target shooting is the varmint-plex reticle offered on the Weaver V24. It's a fine duplex with a tiny center dot to draw the eye to the target.

As far as the optics go the 4200 is a bit sharper and should be better in low light. That said the Weaver is a darn good scope for the money, especially for the ranges you're likely to be shooting at.
