I just noticed that Simmons has totally redone their entire optics line of riflescopes and binoculars. After reading about their new riflescopes I am very interested in their new Aetec MasterSeries riflescope. Can anyone tell me just how good these scopes are optically and mechanically? They look like a Zeiss Conquest in the fact that they have European eyepieces and constant eye relief at all magnifications. They are even advertising a fog and water resistant coating on the lenses called hydro shield that is like Bushnells Raingaurd. All these features including their new adjustment system has me interested in their new scopes. I wasnt considering a Simmons until now. What do you guys have to say? Does anyone have any experience with these new scopes. Thanks.

Since the Simmons Master Series Aetec is a new scope, we have not received any feed back at this time. Were looking forward to hearing a lot of replys on the Master Series. I'm sure they will be as good as they say they are!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone on the SWFA staff had a look through these new scopes? How do they compare optically to say a Burris fullfield II or even the old Aetec series in low light? Just curious, I am interested in them but still want a good quality image.

They don't exist yet.  They had mock ups at SHOT but no production stuff yet.

Hey Chris, I noticed you already have the new simmons scopes listed for sale. If I were to order one from you when could I expect it to arrive? Also, do you know if these new Master Aetecs use the same lenses and coatings as the old Aetecs or are they expected to be better glass and coatings?

Better glass, coatings and everything.  Nothing but name will be the same.  Since Meade took over things look very good for Simmons.  No one will get the new scopes before we do.  Delivery dates are yet to be determined.  You can order now and go on back order status and cancel at any time, but this way you would be at the top of the allocation list.

Sounds like Simmons just may have something good going here. If their new Master series scopes are anything like they say they are going to be, I just may have to consider purchasing one.

Are you sure that glass and coatings will be new?

I just looked through an article (in Shooting Times) that claims that the glass on Simmons scopes will remain the same for now.  The mechanicals are certainly completely redesigned and look quite interesting.

Optics in new Redfield scopes will apparently be completely redesigned and ED glass will be used along with the same mechanical innovations as  in Simmons scopes.

That's what we were told.  Meade even built a new factory to make the Master Series.  During the transitional phase Meade will still source some of the lower end scopes from the same places that Simmons previously used, so some scopes will be the same but all the new Master Series are 100% new from the ground up.  David wrote that article about five months ago when even Simmons themselves did not know a lot of the details.  The glass and coatings are now engineered by Meade and will be different.  The Master Series will also feature a Hydroshield coating that is similar to Bushnell's Rainguard coating.

I am wondering why the New Aetecs are so much more expensive than the other new Simmons scopes. The only feature the Aetec has over the other models is the Aespherical lenses and fully multicoated. Is the glass in the Aetec that much higher quality? They all have the same adjustment system and constant eye relief etc.... I did notice however that only the Aetec has a more forward adjustment turret like the old Burris Signatures used to have. Why?

Glass and coatings are the most expensive part of a scope and the glass and coatings used on the Aetec are that much better and worth the $.

Chris,

How is the Aetec Master Series going to compare with the other $200 scopes; ie. the FullField II, Elite 3200, BuckMaster and Sightrons?  I've got a new .223 coming that will need a new scope and I had been thinking of something in the $200 and under range, like the FF II for it.  Will this new Aetec be better and should I wait?  Thanks

No one really knows because they don't exist yet, but if they are as good in real life as they are paper they will be a definite contender in the $200.00 range.
