Like the .22 idea as well.  Great fun to shoot, cheap, keep your eye sharp for little cost.  Also quiet, so are able to shoot it in a lot of places where the louder report would bother people.

Just like the late great Jeff Cooper used to say: "Every self respecting household should have a .22"

That borders on strawman.  It could put your friend in a bind.  Count the time by saving up more money. Your gonna need a holster ect.  You might also want to take a class.

This doesn't border a "strawman", it IS a "straw" purchase!  Your buddy would be prosecuted!  What would happen I'm not sure, but it wouldn't be good and would cost him some $$$$.  Believe me, you can wait!  It's only 4 months.   Careful with the ammo purchase, I think you have to be 21 for that also.

When you turn 21, buy a USP.  It'll shoot circles around a FN.  If you do decide on a FN, get the 5.7....20+1 is hard to beat and fun to shoot (ammo is same price as .45 acp)

You don't need to understand it. Like most gun-control laws, it was never intended to make sense.
Your handgun purchase plan could very well get you and your friend into more trouble than you can imagine if a zealous prosecutor gets wind of it.
 Don't do it.

If you don't understand the law go to a lawyer. It will be cheaper in the long run. Plus you do not want to jeopardies a lifetime of owning firearms just because you are in a hurry. That attitude is enough to show you may not be mature enough to own a pistol yet. TAKE A CLASS.

Yeah.....too much bullsh*t.  Some states now even require paperwork for a neighbor to neighbor sale..............these are designed to screw up the innocent population.  Next thing we know Sarah Brady will be saying you are supplying guns to foreign powers--- like Mexico and Washington, DC!!

I'm certain you'll have to be 21.  To get a can, you'll have to jump thru all the proper BATF hoops.

Why the hell do you want a suppressor? if you live in the desert who is going to hear you shooting, much less care that you are shooting?

You seem to have a lot of anger built up.  You need to be in control of that before you start owning guns. It really doesnt make much difference who is in the whitehouse all the president can do is veto the legislation.  Your issue is with a legislature who sees gun owners with increasing alarm each time someone commits some outrageous criminal act. You have at least half the people out there crying for police protection and restricted access to firearms due to the unreasonable acts of violence we see almost daily.  Anyone can be pushed beyond their limit, add that to the high capacity of modern firearms and you have one person capable of killing dozens if not hundreds or innocent people. To top it off we have trained our youth on video games to kill kill kill and press re-set and everyone comes back to life. Most people do not hunt game for food or raise farm animals for food and the precious value of life is not learned in the same manner as it was a hundred years ago.  The government in its effort to make things fair to minorities has instituted EEOC laws that are inherintly unfair to white males and have in fact promoted racial tension among white and black each thinking they are unfairly treated. The black man is not your enemy.  Hiring and promotion should be blind to color blind to sex blind to sexual preference and based on work quality ability and qualifications but it's not its usually based on who knows who.  So I'm going to tell you this: Nobody ever promised life would be fair.  And I'm going to leave you with something to think about:  In "Secondhand Lions" Robert Duval said : "There's a long speech I give to young men, sounds like you need to hear a piece of it.  Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man meeds to believe in the most. that people are basically good, that honor, courage & virtue mean everything. That power and money, money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this, that love true love never dies. "

Guns are a thinking mans tool. First learn self control and learn to respect others and then you will be ready to responsibly own firearms.  Your Marine recruiter has all the guns and ammo you can carry and a proven program to teach you honor, courage & virtue.

I am not one to condemn anothers beliefs. I am also not one that makes any assumptions based entirely on skin color. While there is plenty of evidence to suggest that prejudices are often warranted, not all are, and that makes it unfair to the better folk in any group of people. While it is no secret that I am by no means a supporter of Mr. Obama, he is still (GULP) our President. My issue isn't with his skin color, but with what he stands for. Take note that there are more than a few white people that are also in that category. There are also quite a few black people that are very freedom and conservative minded. Before you own a firearm, I think it prudent that you first get a grip on how and why you believe the way you do. Lord knows, we don't (as gun owners) need any more irresponsible hate mongers using our weapon of choice in ill mannered attempts to prove a point.

Color has nothing to do with leadership.  Be it Coach Tony Dungy, any number of heavy hitters in business, and several people of honor and courage in the military, there are many examples people of many colors who can lead.

Our media wants an elected ruler they can manipulate, preferably socialist.  That's what they got.  Now we are stuck with having to make the best of it for at least the next four years.   It is causing some blowback on race relations.

Sidebar: The British press is having a field day with Obama. They are not handling him with kid gloves they way ours does (See link to the Guardian on Drudge).

At 20 you really need to get a broader perspective.  It's called young and dumb for a reason.  College will teach you facts and a few people skills.  The Military will teach you leadership and people skills.  There sales training classes that teach people skills and proper attitude.  None of this is cheap in terms of time or money, nor should it be.

I've written this because while you seem to have some brains, it is clear you still have some maturing to do.  You don't seem to understand just how serious some of the matters you are wanting to deal with can impact your life. These things never go away.

Join the Reserves and take some classes.  You can use the money and the experince. Plus, you will party with a much more interesting crowd.
