I the don't know a whole lot about baseball...what is this guy's deal?  Is a 100mph fastball too fast for a human to hit, or is it that he has such a range of speed on his pitches?

Busting 100mph is a big deal. routinely busting 100mph over and over is phenomenal.  Yea, I'd say he's huge.  BIG BUCKS, and I don't mean the steakhouse and beer joint is coming his way in a hurry.

Yea I agree with Steelbenz breaking the 100 MPH mark for a pitcher is a big deal. It is especially a big deal because this kid is only 20 years old. 100 mph is not impossible to hit, hitting is all timing, but 100 mph pitchers can rely on their fastball more than other pitchers just because the hitters don't see 100 MPH that often.

If he has control and movement on his pitches he should be awesome.

Hopefully this kid does well, keeps his head on straight and makes it to the end like Ryan N. did.  Can you imagine, having a 100 mph + heater fly by followed up by a 86 mph variation of a curve/slider?

Or even a 85 mph straight change. Same rotation as a fastball, and poof the bottom drops out.

A good split-finger that "drops off the table" would be nice to have in one's pitching arsenal. Thunbs Up

that would be nice but all that kid need is control, a change up, and a slider or curveball

If he can locate both, a fastball-change combo could save some wear and tear on his elbow. Pound the fastballs inside, slow roll the outside.
