I have just had confirmation from the gunsmith that he has completed the work on my Remington VSF, which is now a RemVS. No more fluted barrel. There are stil two hoops to jump through. The rifle will hopefully leave on Mon 16Mar for Pretoria for proofing. Then a license amendment as the last hoop. So another 3-4 weeks????

Yes, it is really frustrating knowing my rifle is ready to go. Half an hour drive and I could be shooting this week-end.
But no go, just have to be patient. Whistling

During the 80's we were at the hight of our war against terrorism. Our (white) Govt encouraged all its (white) citizens to be armed and prepared. Gun control was non-existant and a new firearm lic took 2 to 3 weeks to process.
I used to carry a 38Special (4inch barrel)  thinking I was Dirty Harry waiting for some punk to make my day!
Armed robberies and highjackings were non excistant. Our new Govt has changed all of that. Mainly in the form of making lic applications very cumbersome (seems like similiar to Canada) and coming down very hard on any gun related incidences. A person is still permitted to carry a concealed firearm and use it in self defence etc. However, should one use it, even to defend your grandmother from a rapist, then you are immediately the criminal and the rapist the poor innocent victim of human rights abuse. So in the interest of protecting my right to own firearms for hunting and sport shooting, all my firearms are locked away and only comes out for sports and hunting use.
Meanwhile serious crime and murder is spiralling out of control in this country.

Thunbs Up My pleasure! and you know I'm not lying. Like you, I love to get out an shoot. It would be a drag to have to jump through the hoops you've gone through in the past 3 years or so.  I'd be mean as all get out about it.

Wouter, do you have any indication of how it shoots?  Did they test it?  I sure hope it shoots like you want it to after all the sh*t you've gone through!

Tip, no. I have not even seen the rifle fitted with the new barrel! The gunsmith is one of the best, but unfortunately a crabby, unfriendly guy. He gets away with this because he is good at his work. He also promises a timeframe, but does not keep to it. According to his original promise to me the rifle should have been in my hands some 4 weeks ago. I have phoned him a few times to many and he eventually told me to stop bugging him. So rather then getting him to upset and not doing his best, I have left him to his own devices. He is not that type of a guy who will take me to test the rifle after completing the work, but before proceeding with the proofing test and lic application.

The rifle has to be proofed first before a person is permitted to shoot with it.
