Im looking for rings for my model 10 pred hunter just a few questions; are warne rings a good choice for weaver bases? do you have to lap this style ring? what could be a better choice for a 40mm scope and what is the minimun clearence between the scope and barrel ive always thought the closer to the barrel is best  I thought picking out a scope was tough there must be a thousand different ways to duct tape them on

I would add one more question to this thread, since they have almost the same price, what would you choose between Warne Maxima and Leupold PRW perma rings ?

I have been using Warne lately and I'm very pleased!  You can use the Weaver or Warne bases.  I just mounted a 2-7X36 on a Rem 700 Mtn LSS.  I used the Warne bases because they have the slot cut off-center compared to the Weavers.  This allowed me to mount my scope further back and closer to my eye!  Maybe the best feature is that Warne sells a nifty little torque wrench that is set for 25 in-lbs, which is what they recommend for the screws!  They are a little bit of a pain to work with since they join vertically instead of horizontally (like most others), but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly!  I've never lapped rings, so I can't comment on that.

take em!

Thanks for the info guys, looking at the base's that came on the rifle it looks like they are offset so when I mount the scope maybe Ill be able to adjust the eye relief we'll see

I live in Oregon near the Warne Factory and have been in there a few times.  Warne makes the Leupold PRW and QRW rings and bases for Leupold.  I have used both and they both work very well.  Leupold PRS seems to be a little easier to install since they are not vertically split.  Leupold seems to be priced a little higher too.
