Fixed scope have fewer parts.  That means less to go wrong and normally a sharper image.

I'm not what you would call an IOR fan, but I shot a rifle with this scope and thought it was nice.
The owner of the scope I used really liked it.

Does it have the MP-8 reticle?

42 divided by 16 = 2.625 mm exit eye pupil   (bright in low light is the closer to 7mm the better so a 6x42 is 7mm  or very brighte in low light)  Your bigest problem is with low light use. The other problem is that it is a lot of power for anything under 100 yds.  For paper targets bright daylight it should be awesome with awesome glass. For hunting it is not the right scope. For long range sniper work in bright day light it is quite good.  For night or evening sniper work it is too much power resulting in a 2.6 mm exit eye pupil  ( not much light through it ).    If you dont want it send it to me I could use it.
