Hello from Maine,

I have "Marlin model 60" and "Savage Mark 2" 22lr carbines, they are fun and cheap to feed - how sad my rifle range is knee deep in snow at the moment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was thinking of upgrading their cheap scopes to Nikon - like my camera lenses, but sadly I see no Nikon will focus less than 50 yards.

What scope is good that has parallax adjust for 25, 50, and 100 yards and costs about $160 from Samplelist ?

Thank you :)
Craig

Oh, come to think of it, Millett scopes that have adjustable objective all focus down to 15 yards.

I'd go with the Weaver. Thunbs Up

I've never tried a Weaver. I'll have to.

I did try a Millet and I swear the one I had didn't pass QC - I had to wear a hood or a sombrero or shoot from the shade, because if light hit the rear most glass ("ocular element"?) it would have a massive reflection. It was the weirdest thing. I think it wasn't "coated".

Other than that, and I can probably return it, it was a pretty good scope for the price.

Cheers,
Craig

The 3-9 is a great scope.  But, if you want simpler, cheaper you might want to read my old review of the Weaver R4.  Especially my comments about depth of field.  The skinny eyepiece and objective ends look really good on a trim rifle like your Marlin.

I recently purchased the Weaver Classic in 3-9x with AO,model 849398, the rimfire model. It cost $199  and I am extremely pleased with it. The AO puts the crosshairs and the target in the same focal plane from less than 10 yards to over 150,eliminating parallex aiming errors. It is sharp and clear at all ranges and all magnifications, clear out to the edges of the view. The windage and elevation adjustments are very easy to turn with discrete clicks. The adjustable objective lens and the ocular lens turn easily. I have owned scopes that cost a lot more that weren't as good. I can't find a single fault with this lens and would recommend it to anyone who wants to shoot little groups at 100 yards or less.

Has any one tried a Zeiss Conquest 3-12 x 44 side focus on a 22?

Why would you want to? You aren't stalking deer at dusk. Why would you spend that much to scope a stock 22?

Well it is a bit much for size and magnification range, but if he's got the money, why not?
I doubt he'd find its' performance lacking.
I don't know what its' close-range focusing abilities are though.

Oops I had two posts confused. But with the mission statement for the Marlin and Savage it still wouldn't be my choice unless the OP has low light hunting in mind. His/her stated purpose was range use.
