Have never used a spotting scope before. Will mostly be used at the range and a possible trip out west some day.  It won't be used alot. I got jumpy and  bought the Bushnell Trophy 20-60 ($250). How is this one? Am now questioning the eye releif. Should I have waited and saved another $100-$200? I didn't know about this site beforehand.

Measure twice cut once.  What you get for optics in the $250 to$500 range in the way of spotting scopes will most likely be disappointing. I would think that you start getting into better glass past the $500 point. You can always trade in what you have toward the purchase of what you decide on. There is a trade in form on the first page of the samplelist link.

If you already have the bushnell trophy and have done something that would prevent you from returning it to the place you bought it the trade in deal may be your best option.  If you have purchased but not done anything but examine the optic you may be able to return it to where you bought it and make a selection that better meets your needs. You really need to look at some different ones and compare them - once you know what you want SWFA is a great place to buy it.   Good Luck  and Welcome.

I just ordered the Bushnell Excursion for $217 w/ free shipping.  I think I got lucky because that price was way too low!   http://www.swfa.com/pc-13195-2266-new-bushnell-15-45x60-excursion-flp-spotting-scope.aspx - http://www.swfa.com/pc-13195-2266-new-bushnell-15-45x60-excursion-flp-spotting-scope.aspx I tried several spotting scopes over the last year and I've pretty much given up on finding something in my price range.

The Excursion is supposed to be a copy of the Leupold FLP spotter and it's specs sure look like it is.

There's very little information on them because they haven't been out for long.  I should get mine on friday and I will post a review soon after.

There is some information on this forum about the Excursion.  May be too late since you've already purchased the scope but, it still might be worth reading.  Looking forward to your review.

I am also a newbie and am very interested in the Bushnell Trophy 20-60, which can be had at competitor for about $170.  I understand the quality is not as good as the Excursions and the Elites and other name brands.  But all I want is a scope that will able to see bullet holes at 200 yards.  And I won't even attempt to go to the range if the weather is bad.  Based on my limited needs, is this scope sufficient?

The Bushnell Trophy is not a bad scope.  Certainly there are better, and for not a lot more money but, it will likely prove to be acceptable for the purposes you describe. Even if the weather is bad, the Trophy is waterproof so; there would be no harm.
