Subject: Bushnell Yardage Pro Laser Scope - Need opinions

I couldn't find anything on these forums on this scope, so here it goes:

I was looking at getting the...

Bushnell Yardage Pro Laser Scope

For my new FNAR:

The scope is called "Bushnell's all-in-one guide to hitting everything!"

Bushnell combined a premium 4–12x 42mm riflescope, laser rangefinder and bullet-drop compensator, so you can see your target with stunning clarity and nail it with lethal precision. Fully multi-coated optics deliver optimum brightness and color fidelity. The laser rangefinder is activated with a wireless trigger pad. Bullet-drop turrets eliminate hold-over guesswork. We wrote a new book on accuracy, and you get to end it.

Bushnell Yardage Pro

- Mounts to Weaver Style Bases
- Fully multi-coated optics
- 100% waterproof / fogproof
- 3.5" eye relief
- Windage end elevation click value .25
- Mil-dot reticle
- Weighs only 24 oz.
- 30–800 yards/meter range
- +/- 1-yard accuracy
- Standard and SCAN modes
- Wireless trigger pad
- Operates on one 3-Volt battery (5,000 fires)
- Bullet-drop compensation turrets

Yeah, that is right, it has a little wireless pad with a button on it.  You attach it down by the grip.  One tap of your finger, and the scope shows digitally the exact distance to target using the laser range finder.  You can then use the top dial of the scope and dial it to the correct distance, 350 yards, 500 yards, whatever.

Strangely enough, I cannot find this scope on http://www.bushnell.com - www.bushnell.com .  It IS in their most recent catalog though.

One thing is for sure, that is one ugly scope.

lol, I forgot to ask any questions.

1. Does anyone have experience with this item?
2. Are there other scopes out there like this, with the integrated laser range finder?
2. Can anyone find reviews or other information on this item?

Unfortunately I don't have experience with any of the last rangefinding scopes...

I do recall though seeing some highlighted in a relatively recent magazine.
Perhaps it was an American Hunter within the past 6 months?
I'll see if I can find it and reply in the next day or so.

LASERSCOPE™ RIFLE SCOPE

It began with a radical yet simple concept: combine an accurate rangefinder and a premium quality rifle scope in a single, efficient package. A quantum technological leap for certain, and Burris accomplishes exactly that with great success.
The new Burris LaserScope doesn’t look like a conventional rifle scope. But then there’s nothing conventional about how it performs.
A shooter can range game, aim and fire in one smooth motion with the LaserScope.
No losing sight of the target while you juggle between a separate rangefinder, rifle and scope. No losing precious seconds in the transition. No mental gymnastics as you try and factor in bullet drop. Just range, aim and squeeze the trigger.
With premium quality 4X-12X Burris optics at its core, you can depend on a bright, crisp, and extremely clear field of view. Packed with state-of-the-science micro-circuits and precision beam splitter, the advanced laser rangefinder is at minimum the equal to any stand-alone unit. But hard hunting and magnum recoil will not stifle its performance. The Burris legacy of unfailing shot-after-shot accuracy continues.
Even with the superb optics and leading edge rangefinding performance, the most amazing feature of the LaserScope is its affordable retail price.

looks like about $618.00

Well, I still can't find that article....

BUT, I took a few minutes at Burris's site and believe I can answer one of your questions.  This is a quote from http://www.burrisoptics.com/tech.html
Waterproof Test
All Burris optics are proven to be absolutely waterproof.
Each scope is submerged in water with a temperature of 50° C.
The extremely hot water transfers its heat to the scope and the internal nitrogen expends 100% testing assures quality.
As for reicle options on trhe Bushnell, I think you are outta luck...they do offer SOME custom reticles, but not for the laser rangefinding scope...quoting from their site:
Custom Reticle Program
Custom reticles are available for adjustable objective Elite‚ riflescopes only on a custom basis. Reticles available by scope model are listed below. To order your custom reticle, mail your scope along with a check for $55.00 to:

Bushnell‚ Elite Riflescopes
Attn: Custom Reticles
8500 Marshall Drive
Lenexa, KS 66214

Your scope will be returned in approximately 6 weeks.
Model Description Reticle (M.O.A.)
32-4124A 4-12 x 40 1/4, 1/2 Dot
42-4164M 4-16 x 40 1/4, 1/2 Dot
42-4165M 4-16 x 50 1/4, 1/2 Dot
42-6244M 6-24 x 40 1/4, 1/2 Dot, Mil Dot
42-8324M 8-32 x 40 1/4, 1/2 Dot, Mil Dot

The Nikon BDC is a "Bullet Drop Compensator" reticle & is their version of the Burris "Ballistic Plex".
More info on the Bussis is here: http://www.burrisoptics.com/reticles.html
More info on the Nikon BDC is here: http://nikonsro.com/fileuploads/pdfs/BDC_manual.pdf

For your remaining questions, I suggest you call/email customer service for each of the manufacturers.  It doesn't look like anyone eles has the info you need thus far.

I hope this helps some.
   -Mike
PS I'll keep an eye out at my house for that article.....It's going to bug me until I find it.

Thanks man, that is great help.

I really like the exterior look of the Burris and that reticle with the bumps, but their web site is kind of crappy, which kind of makes me wonder of overall quality of the company.

The Bushnell is an ugly looking scope, but the turrets for bullet drop is a really sweet idea.  If it wasn't for the exterior look I would just buy that one.

I will think about it a bit more, but I am leaning towards the Bushnell right now.

What is BDC Reticle?
I have the Nikon IRT with Bullet Drop Compensation (BDC) reticle.  I have been meaning to review it, but quickly... fast tracking, good-very good glass, dead-on BDC out to 500yd (as far as I have "shot it"), a little heavier than some like, but built in laser rangefinding (which is consistent at +-1yd) is an excellent trade, overall, well worth the money.  It is now on my electrically fired Remington 700 Etronx .220Swift, which is the most accurate out of the box rifle I have ever fired.  Much more accurate than rifles costing 5-7 times as much.  The scope is a good match for it.

Eat your heart out ladies.  Bought my scope yesterday.  Sort of related------> Finished my Halloween costume too.  More on that later.

Wow is this Fabrique National FNAR weapon system sweet.  At this point I think it will be forever a "safe queen", but perhaps I will eventually get up the gaul to fire a few rounds.

I did in fact buy a Bushnell Yardagepro 4-12x42

http://www.bushnell.com/general/rangefinders_yardagepro.cfm?section=Hunting - http://www.bushnell.com/general/rangefinders_yardagepro.cfm?section=Hunting

This scope has three features that are absolutely phenomenal.

1. It has in integrated Laser Rangefinder.  Unreal.  If you haven't played with one of these, try it.  You will never by another kind of scope again.
2. It has bullet drop compensation turrets that replace the standard turrets.  Just match your ballistics and there are visible notches right on the turret that shows actual yardage numbers....

3. PLUS, it has a wireless trigger remote to activate the range finder.  I have it located right by the location of where my thumb would go.

The low profile of the scope is PERFECT for the rail on the FNAR.

I went as a RIOT policeman to a local charity masquerade ball.  I am NOT a policeman.  I made a shield from wood, plexi-glass, and the word POLICE on my printer put on the face of the shield.  I covered an old helmet with some kind of stretchy fabric from one of those sewing stores, and shazaam!  Instant riot gear.

Sorry, cell phone camera.  Crappy picture.  You can see I made two of everything.... one for a friend of mine.

I took some of those elements from the costume and took some FNAR pictures.  Again, I am NOT a policeman.  Enjoy.

There has been snow here since December 1 and I am a big wuss.

I did try it out a window at my house, it measures up to 800 yards as far as I can tell. I don't have a clear view beyond that for the range finder.

I have it on my FNAR now, waiting for nicer weather for range time.

Perhaps if I had a n attractive gal to keep me warm.....

When I do go, I wanted to do some video to capture the effectiveness of the FNAR semi-auto aspect.  A few questions and the setup. in a minute...

-------------

What I wanted was this.

1. Setup in prone using bi-pod attachment.
2. Loaded 20 round mag.
3. Targets at 100 yards.
4. Camera directly behind me with 20 targets in the distance.
5. Fire 20 rounds, hit 20 targets in succession that can be readily seen by the camera.

I have ZERO experience trying to document on a range this type of thing.  Perhaps you guys have experience with that sort of thing?

Having watched a ton of Youtube videos of guys with their firearms at a range.... clearly many are cheezy, and few are well done.  I want to fall into the "quality presentation" category.

I am inexperienced at long-range shots.  All of my other scopes and weapons I own I have only shot at much shorter distances.  Obviously I will need to sight the weapon and pick a day with low windage.

A few questions:
---What kind of target can I set-up down range at 100 yards that the camera will be able to see explode from behind me, the shooter?  Will 2 litre bottles of water work?

---What magnificaiton should I have my yardage-pro at to deliver 20 hits at 100 yards in succession?

---If I can do it, I would like to feature the semi-auto aspect of the FNAR to deliver 20 accurate shots down-range in a quick but controlled succession?  Any advice?

I have zero experience with this as well, but you will need a reactive target for sure to show on video.  100 yds should not present a challenge once you have the rifle/scope dialled in.  Not sure how the range might feel about your suggested target though.  You will have to get their concurrence first.  If ok with them don't see why 2 litre water bottles (use red dye for greater affect) wouldn't work and give you the visual you want

Use a quality camera, and someone that knows how to use it. Use some good editing software as well. It will take several takes to get what you want, and probably some splicing of video as well. So learn the software and practice.

Excellent suggestions.  I was thinking that a substance like milk (white) might show up better against a darker tree background.

Do you think a 2 litre bottle is too large of an object for 100 yards?  I wouldn't want a target size that makes the viewer say "Who couldn't do that, look how large the 2litre bottles are."

I was trying to create a video with this kind of angle, with tha kind of target hit that the viewer can see.

Any advice?

I don't know how quick of a succession you are wanting to take the shots, but a 2 liter bottle at 100 yards is a huge target. Any magnification that your scope is capable of should be adequate for 100 yard shooting. Wind should have a minimal effect at such a short range.

I guess I don't have to eat my heart out... by pure chance I stumbled upon your post as I was looking for reviews on this scope.  A little late I suppose since I already ordered it and guess what rifle it's for. An FN AR just like yours... what a small world. Great minds think alike. I have not settled on a bipod as yet though. Which one do you have on yours. I am thinking I want one that swivels and rotates but I am not sure. Nice looking rifle! Can you tell us how it groups yet and how you like that scope or did you buy it for the wall?

Thanks man, great minds do think alike!!!!!!

Boy, let me look that up.  I posted a review here somewhere......

As for bipod, I would get one that swivels.  I purchased a simple GG and G bi-pod that works fine.. but I can see if a person did any amount of shooting you would want a swivel too.

Here it was................

Well, finally went and shot 20 rounds through the FNAR. I was with my nephew so it was a quick trip just for fun.

I tried to adjust the scope while I was at it, too bad I shoot so poorly. I will take some time on a warmer day and carefully adjust it.

Here were the results after 20 rounds @ 100 yards... adjusting the scope to compensate whilst shooting. You can see I was working my way to a bullseye, too bad I over-slid the bag and had to come back. Not sure if those two hits in the center were luck or divine intervention. Boy I stink.

I can verify that the laser rangefinding scope is very accurate. I am interseted in getting it set... and then trying out the turrets and see how that technology works. Of course you have to know enough to pick the correct turret, so things are stacked against me. I am a n00b with almost no hope.

The rifle kicks nothing like the .308 hunting rifle I shot.... which is a testament to design and the gas block system. Recovery was quick even for a guy like me used to low-recoil .223 in my M4 or 5.7 in my PS90.

Boy, what a boom the thing has.

I did go AGAIN and here was my hit pattern at 150 yards after a lot of shots.  I think I fired 10 at 50 yards, 10 at 100 yards, then used a fresh target and 20 rounds at 150 yards below....so the barrel was hot and may account for the spread.  I was adjusting the scope at the same time.....plus I am a horrible shooter.

I am not technical enough to know exactly what turet to put on my scope, so I have it with one of the turrets on it at the 150 yard marker.  I figure I can ask someone which turret to use and then swap it out later.  As long as I know the scope is set for 150 yards.

Sorry ICK,
a hot barrel will open your group up an MOA or even two MOA but dude your all over the target.

Dan, I was thinking that, but didn't want to infer that the boy can't hit the inside of a barn if he was standing inside it.  He just needs a little trigger time is all.

His first target wasn't too bad and he was honing in on the bulls eye.... I will give him it was the turret experiment. Keep at it Ick nobody masters anything without practice, practice, practice. I like the setup. I am wondering what to mount on my front end.. maybe a laser for emergency close range home protection! Na... maybe just for the coolness, I have too many other choices to keep this one under the bed. I am excited about getting the scope and getting it out on the range for the first time. I saw a video clip of a guy shooting one and they look tame on recoil compared to my 30-06.. I was hoping so as I wouldn't really want to put 40-60 rounds through that rifle at one sitting.
