Is the Zeiss Rapid Z reticle prominant enough to use in low light shootong, very early or very late in the day?

yes it is- it was designed as a hunting reticle, and is too thick for a good  target or varmit shooting reticle.
edit to note this doesn't include the varmit reticle.

I have used it a little bit now, in a diavari 3-12x56 and it's a near ideal for foxhunting where the time from spotting the animal to the shot i critical.
BUT I would have prefered the whole reticle to be black and not illuminated and just have a small illuminated dot in the reticle.

There is simply to much illumination in this.

But the answer on your question, it that it's fine for low ligth, its actually very good too.
But there are reticles that is better for low light than this one.
