I have been thinking about  a Zeiss 3x9  z600 for my 30.06.  Does anybody have any opinions regarding this scope and recticle?    I have a elite 4200 3x9 on it, would it be worth double the cost of this scope for the Zeiss.  It seems super clear, but I am wondering how it will match up to my rifle using 180gr bullets. I have a Leica 1200 yrd range finder and I have been thinking the Zeiss scope would alow me to get better use out of my rangefinder.   Am I crazy for thinking this...what do you guys think???

P.S.  on the SWFA scale the two scopes are @ #6 on the scale.

Hey samhill

I just recently installed a 3.5x10 on a friend's 30-06 and am working up a load for it now.  The scope is excellent and very very clear.  You can figure out about the trajectory of your loads and the reticle at the Zeiss website by using the RapidZ calculator.

http://www.zeiss.com/C1256BCF0020BE5F?Open - http://www.zeiss.com/C1256BCF0020BE5F?Open

The thing with the RapidZ reticles is that you use the calculator after inputting your data and it will tell you what power to set the scope on in order to match the reticle.  For the 30-06 and the RapidZ600 you will be setting the power ring somewhere around 8 power.  Then you can test it at the longer ranges to fine tune the reticle for your load.

The z600 would be an excellent addition to your 30.06. I've seen the reticle, Zeiss did a great job in designing it. Thunbs%20Up

I quess to me it would depend on how often I thought I was going to be shooting at over 200 yds....... because I shoot 150 grns in my 30-06 and it shoots very flat out to that range!  Really, only you can decide if its "worth it" or not.  Some would say that if it allowed them to take just one buck-of-a-lifetime, then its worth it!  Others might not think one time is enough.

Pretty sure most folks here won't think you're nuts for doing it....... if you have the money and the time to practice......... why not go for it!

Sakomato

I checked out the z calculator on the zeiss homepage...the power would be right at 7 for the ammo I use.

Have you used your friends scope yet?  Is it right on or is it more or less a reference point?

Anything you know or any real world experience from anyone else would be awesome

thanks for the replies

Oops forgot

Does that mean you must have the scope on that power for it to work for correcct bullet drop..........I think I know the answer but just checking.

thanks

I could be wrong but I believe Dale Clifford has one of the Z reticles on one of his rifles. Try PM'ing him if he doesn't chime in soon.

I have some experience with a RapidZ 800 reticle in a 4.5x14x44 scope which is on my custom barreled 6.5 rem mag.  Shooting a 140 gr Sierra Game King at 3000 fps.  That works out to 11.5 power at 300 yards and that worked for me

I was shooting with a friend who had a 300 win mag with a RapidZ 800 this last weekend and we figured out he should shoot on 11.25 power and the elevation was right.  He had more of a problem with the wind and canting his rifle or just the rifle.  But with his scope and mine we could pick out the bullet holes when the Leupold 15x45x60 spotting scope was useless.  It's all about resolution and clarity and these scopes have it in spades!

I got it. Used it for two weeks hunting in WY.  JUst got back. I cant think of a better scope recticle....I love this thing  and will be buying more to replace the leos that I own....crazy I know but it kicks butt as long as you have the BC for your bullet and a Chronograph you can get that hummer zeroed right in.  It freaking works

Thanks guys
