Greetings from Idaho...
I was all set to mount a stainless vxii on my new M70 camo/stainless shadow (300wsm) when I found this site. I was SET on leupy, I mean scope in hand taking it down to get rings/boresighted. Now I think for the extra $100 I will return the unopened VX!! and get a 4200 elite w/o firefly. The local hunter hangout stocks the 3200 w/ firefly and the first impression is that the reticle is very thick- almost distracting. The thinnest part is only the last 1/4 (or less?) and is almost an "opening" in the site picture. Sorry to rip it -I suppose you'd get used to it. and after a few minutes I was starting to. The leupy has gobs of eye relief, but I used an old burris with almost none to take my first big game, a muley with a 7 mag this fall (4x4) He was with 7 does 100 yards broadside at a trot. He hopped up & I didn't have time to adjust from 6x or to get a rest but it was a H&L shot that dropped him in 2 lopes...sorry off on a brag tangent, back to the scopes
Both have good bright glass but I like the elite over the leupy for the extra range of magnification, and the eyepiece is more of a euro type -plus I could/will get the matching Legend yardage pro and 10x42 binos. a complete optics package
Wether I get a 4200 with FF or not is still up in the air the questions I have are:
Would Bushnells standard reticle dissappear to the point that you would feel unsure about the shot placement during legal hrs. (30 min before/after here in Idaho for big game and no electric/batteries in the gun/scope) and would this extra help during that time outweigh "putting up" with a doubly thick xhair during daylight hrs.-- My "surgical strike" was at 2:30 partly cloudy
Could the 3200 firefly been an older model with a first gen. thicker xhair and the new ones are thinner? Some posts have said they aren't bad but c'mon these things look like matchsticks
Does the 4200 have a different type of finish matte than the 3200, It seemed to but I was looking mostly at the firefly 32 at the time and it seemed to show fingernail (ect.) marks in the matte the Burris FF2 does it worse I think.
And Last, Does anyone have a preference for mounts on a M70 wsm
Great forum & I apologize for such a long-winded and boastful first post
