Guys,

Heading out to Wyoming this year for some antelope hunting. I'll be taking my Tika T3 chambered in .270 topped off with a Bushnell 3200 in 3x9. So I've been researching and I know I may be presented with a 300-350+ yard shot. Will the 3x9 be sufficient or should I go up to a 4x12 or something similar? I've shot deer up to ~220yds with a 3x9, and all was well, just don't want to get out there and not have enough scope.

I think it would be enough....I always used 3X9 or 4X12 for antelope but I had the scopes set on 6X......you could always go up to nine for a long shot......Smile

A 3-9 scope will be fine for those ranges.  I have a Elite 4200 on my 270 and I shoot out to 400-500 yards with in a 9.  You should be fine with the scope you have.

Since you already own the 3200 and have had some success with it I would stay with it unless you are ready to invest quite a bit more money. What I would suggest you do since it is very likely a Duplex reticle is to set the scope on 9x and zero the center cross  hair at 200 yds. This will very likely make the point where the cross hair goes from thin to thick above center correspond with 100 yds and very likely make the point where the cross hair goes from thin to thick below the center X correspond to the 300 yd point of impact. Try it and see what you get. Note the power setting must be at the highest power (or same power each time to strike same place)  just like a BDC reticle on a second focal plane scope.                            ::

                                      ::  100
                                       :

             =======--------:-------======   200
                                       :
                                       :
                                      ::     300
                                      ::
It might take some adjusting as it may be 50,  175 and 350 or some other distance numbers but what ever it is it will give you a known hold over point to use at distance.

A 3x9 shouldn`t be a problem for antelope at those ranges....

The 3x9 scope has been a proven standard for years and it should work just fine for all sensible ranges.  All the power in the world can not make up for home work, practice and range time.

No problem with a 3-9x, I've been using a 2-7x in eastern Montana with annual success and most of the guys I hunt with use 3-9x's. You're fine. As lucytuma suggested, spend some time practicing at those distances - Antelope can be difficult to get close to after having been shot at.

If you're looking for an excuse to get a new scope...... then I would look at the 4-12s, otherwise a 3-9 will work just fine.
