Hi All,

I need a couple new scopes for a heavy kicking gun.  I would like a 50MM 3x9,4x16,2x10 or in those ranges.  Looking for the longest eye relief I can get 1st, then I can weed out the reticle choices etc.  Can you point me to mfgs/models that have 4" eye relief or better?

Thanks,

Mike

Nikon Monarch scopes have a constant 4 inches of eye relief.
Some scout scopes like the ones Burris makes have extended eye relief for use on a scout rifle.
Now for my suggestion:

this has 4.4 to 3.8 inches eye relief and is a classic dangerous game gun scope. When you say a heavy kicking gun I would take that to mean a dangerous game gun in 375H&H or 416 Rigby, 460 Weatherby or the like. These guns are made for hunting at realtively short distances say under 200 yds and most likely under 50 yds.  A dangerous game gun has to come on target very rapidly and must be useful not only during the day but also at night because dangerous game has been known to hunt the hunter at night.  Under those circumstance low power optics are the best choice.  If on the other hand you are using a "heavy kicking gun" to gain velocity and shoot non dangerous game at long range the suggested scope would be different.

What do you define as heavy kicking guns?  To some, a 7mm Rem. magnum is heavy kicking and to others it is mild kicking.  What type of hunting are you going to do?  If you intend to be shooting something in the range of a 458, 460 or larger; the scopes you mentioned are not appropriate.  The scope mentioned above would be appropriate.  Let us know some more specifics and we can provide some more answers.

................More specifics please! What rifle? What caliber is your heavy kicker? ............If you have a dangerous game rifle such as a 375 caliber on up, I wouldn`t put a scope on there with a 50 mm objective and certainly not in the powers you mention!.............For a scope with a  50mm and in the powers you state, your rifle should be a longer range fast 7mm mag., a .300 mag or a .338 mag...................Of all, Leupolds and the Zeiss Conquests will probably give you the best eye relief.
