Are you considering using a a more tactical look and a rail or do you just want to go conventional and stay with Leupolds or Warnes?

Conventional, I'm gonna put the scope on a Marlin .22 mag, the site says the bases are included with the rifle.  I was looking at Leupold's standard 1 in rings, however I'm not sure if I need to purchase a Leupold base with the rings or if the rings will work on the base already provided

I don't think they provide a base ???  " will work on the base already provided " ... those are firearm specific ..... unless you meant the rifle came with a base .

the grove width is different on 22 and rifles, narrower, leo 1" rings for 22s will work
