I have a Mark4PR which is just about the same thing, basically it is the middle of the road -
hunting scope with bettter tactical / target knobs. Actually  the shorter Mk2 knobs make sense to me. I think it was a good change as I see no real reason to  have them as high as they are on the scope I have. The glass on mine is not that great but is functional and very reliable mechanically. There are a lot of police using the lower priced leupold PR and as time goes on the Mk2 as they just dont want to spend the money for the Mk 4  M1 scopes. The thing you have to remember is that the average police shot is about 60 to  75 yds so what they need is a scope that will hold its zero and be able to adjust just a few inches up or down for any trajectory differences between say 50 to 100 yds. It would be really rare for most of them to shoot a 200 yd shot. There are some units that have other needs like Secret Service who practice out to extreme long range distances but that is a whole different issue.

Thanks for the post, Wes.
I was looking at the 3-9X Mark 2 with the T2 knobs and Mil dot for my AR.

For what most police snipers do say 50 to 150 yds you could use one of these zeroed at 100 and just know where it will hit each 25 yds out to 200. At those distances wind drift is not as much of a factor.

I don't know if it's a love fest. They still put "milky" lenses in their cheaper scopes and their higher end stuff is pretty good. The only problem with the VX-III is that it costs quite a bit more than equivalent stuff in a Bushnell or Nikon. The Conquests are closer in price but have better glass.
I haven't used the Conquest enough to compare adjustments, though. The Leupold's also have a lot of reticle choices versus the others.

I have now seen not ONE, but TWO VX-L's that had what I thought to be superb glass, Doug.
But DAYYYUM, I just can't warm up to that hinky looking objective lens/housing!! Whacko

Those things are gross and will never adorn one of my rifles. I'd rather have a 40mm objective lens.

I've got a MK 4 PR, which someone mentioned is about the same as a MK 2. I've been pretty happy with it. The adjustments are true and the glass is decent. I've had scopes that seemed clearer in good light but in dim light the Leupold has them beat.

I'd say go for it and get one, then you can tell us how they are.

I'm thinking why bother with a Mark2 when you can custom order a VX III with M1 knobs for about $120 more or if you prefer the covered target knobs you can get those on almost any VX III.   I'm thinking 1.5-5 VX III with M1 knobs.
