Thank You. Arguably I might have made a mistake in having them all hard chromed by Mahovsky Metalife (PA), but I wanted to protect them all, a couple were used police, either German or US (M8, M13) and the PSP quickly developed wear marks from a kydex holster...

They are all very accurate but the K3 in 32 seems to be the most accurate.

Kydex is rough on most finishes.

I just finished this rifle for a friend this evening and will begin test firing next week. It has the following components:
- Defiance Deviant Tactical action w/ integral 20 MOA rail
- Bartlein 2B contour 10-twist 5R barrel @24", chambered .300 Win Mag, fluted, throat length to allow 200 gr. Hornady ELD-X to touch lands at 3.465" COAL.
- Tangent Theta 3-15X50 P.M. 30mm XR mrad reticle scope
- Seekins rings
- Mcmillan Game Warden stock w/ adj cheek, flush cups + single swivel stud out front, pillar bedded, DuraCoat camo finish.
- Timney Calvin Elite trigger, set @ 2 lbs.
- Surgeon DBM bottom metal
- AI 5-rd mag

It's basically a twin of this rifle I built for my brother 2 months ago...

...except for the top rifle, the owner requested a slightly lighter contour barrel to save a little weight (#2b vs. #3 contour), and he wanted me to paint the camo stock finish instead of a molded-in camo from McMillan. So, I did the camo using the "sponge" technique with a combo of Woodland Tan, ACU Gray Green, Wilderness Mirage Brown, Woodland Green, and SOCOM Black DuraCoat, then shot 6 coats of matte clear DuraCoat on top.

Ted,
I'm not asking for a comparison or "who's best".  There are a number of FINE custom actions out there.  Just wondering what points drove you to select the Defiance over the several other fine quality, highly reliable actions.  I suspect some custom aspect that other "custom" action builders may not offer for selection, but could be other.  Just wondering.  I like what I've seen of the Defiance actions, but have not had opportunity to shoot one.  Only one I've handled was very smooth in operation, but once again, no shooting time.

The origin of these 2 rifles began last fall when my brother, his business partner and I were hunting in south Texas. One morning at breakfast, my brother asked me if I'd build him a rifle. As I was discussing what he wanted and how much he was willing to spend, I began narrowing down a component list that I felt would best satisfy his needs and the compromises he was willing to make, since a couple of his wants kinda conflicted with each other. One aesthetic thing he mentioned was that he liked the look of spiral fluted bolts. He also wanted a combination LR precision rifle and hunting rifle that wasn't "too" heavy that he could take elk hunting. This led to the decision to not go too heavy on barrel contour, the selection of .300 Win Mag, a stock that was a good hybrid of tactical & hunting styles, sloped rail, capable tactical style scope that was also not "too" heavy, etc. My brother's business partner decided on the spot that he too would like a rifle setup the same way, so what started out as a casual conversation with my brother turned into a request to build 2 rifles. I seem to have some kind of mystical force that causes folks who hang around me for more than a few minutes to suddenly have the urge to buy more guns. Or so I've been told.

Anyway, given the above requirements, the Defiance Deviant Tactical action was selected for 4 main reasons:
- It had the fluted bolt he wanted
- It has integral, machined-in 20 MOA rail and integral recoil lug, which are obviously superior to separate components.
- It's a damn good, extremely well-machined action with slick bolt operation, well finished with no discernible tool marks anywhere.

And most importantly....

- Southern Precision Rifles happened to have 2 RH Deviant Tac actions in stock, with no wait. Given they wanted to hunt with these rifles this fall sealed the deal.

Most all the custom actions are very nice, and it's hard to go wrong with any of them. I have at least 1 action from most of the major players and have been very pleased with all. I like the Defiance actions better than most for a hardcore LR precision rig due mainly due to the integral rail and recoil lug, which really makes for a stiff action.

Care to ballpark what you have in the setup, minus optics?
