I just put a new Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 on my Sako 75. I have noticed a slight blurr all the way around the glass. It is only in the very edge and particularly noticable when I pan side to side.It is just a slightly out of focus band all the way around. It really shows up when you are standing in a shaded area and looking into a brightly lit area.Is this something common? Is it a defect?I noticed the same thing once before when I looked through a guys expensive Kahles.I have never seen this in a store when looking at the Conquest scopes and never seen it with any of my Leupolds.

I've owned the same scope & never had that problems in the year I had it on my T/C 460mag.That scope comes with a lifetime warrenty ,call Zeiss they have great CS,they might even send you a return lable.

Best bang for the buck scope out there in that price range.

Thanks for the reply.I just wondered if anyone else had ever noticed the same thing on their Conquest scopes.I did clean it with an optical wipe but there was no difference. It's nearly like the very edge wasn't polished as well as the rest of the lense.

Trying to explain,it's sort of a kaleidoscopic effect at the very edge when I pan the scope side to side.

Don't have that with mine.  Try giving them a call.

I've noticed it in a Conquest. Also noticed it in Leupolds, a Kahles, a couple Pecar-Berlins, and on one Swarovski. Didn't hurt performance, just let it bother me at 1st, then have long since forgot about it until this thread.

I don't have it on mine either. I used Zeiss CS once and they were great.

Does the blur exist at all power settings or only at high or low power? I have noticed this in some scopes. Especially in lower end scopes. It has never been a problem for me in the Conquest. It comes from looking near the edge of the lens creating a distortion because of the curvature of the lens. The lens is designed to use the center for the best clarity. If looking off center there is a slight asymmetry that creates a distortion. The better the lens the less the distortion. Some peoples eyes are more sensitive to it than others. This will normally be at the lowest power settings where the lens system is using the widest amount of the objective lens. This is noticed more by binocular viewers than in rifle scopes because the reticle focuses you eye to the center of the scope. The sweet spot. When looking thru binoculars you tend to shift your eyes to see the full view or when panning across the landscape you see the bowing at the edges.

I know that this threads a month old, but I have been looking for a thread on this very subject.  I too have the experience you are talking about.  How I have to look through the scope is very critical.  I noticed it in the store and actually took the first one back for a replacment.  Same issue.  I guess either some eyes don't see it or it doesn't bother them.  It bothers me so much that I am selling mine to put on a buckmasters which I have on 3 other rifles and love.
