Just making this a sticky temporarily so it will remain at the top until everyone here has a chance to vote in the poll below.  That way, the results will truly represent the opinions of the forum regulars on the subject of Leupold.  Please take a few seconds to vote.  That way, the next time someone claims that "OT hates Leupold," rather than speculate, we can direct them to this poll, which will either dispute or reinforce that claim.

Thanks!

Claims that are unfounded, so far, BTW.

I think most OT folks like Leupold but resent being over charged for
what you get.

Ditto! Almost 85% in favor or neutral to Leupold.

When choosing a scope I always check to see what Leupold has to offer as well.

I own an older model Vari-X III 2.5-8  36.  I like the looks of their scopes a lot, but I paid over $300 for it, which was hardly cheap in those days, and I got a good deal.  This scope went on my .280 A-Bolt, but I could not discern a lot of difference between it and my even older 2.5-8 32 Bushnell ScopeChief, which was only about $115.

Buyers seem to be paying more money for the name Leupold, and a reputation built up over many years.  I have never had to send the scope in, so I have no comment on their CS, and the scope has given me dependable service over the years.  I actually was under the impression that I had a top of the line piece of equipment there, and that impression came from reading all of their advertising literature.  Now it looks like they have been living off of that reputation far too long to justify their products and their prices.

Then I bought a Kahles.  Kinda changed my impression about what I had for equipment.  But , no, I don't hate Leupold.  It might help too, if the Leupold lovers were not such fanatics about defending their position.  My impression is that it is more of an emotional response, than an objective one.  Like liberals vs. conservatives.Smile

I had a Leupold on a rifle for thirteen years and it worked fine. No problems.  Of course, I don't expect problems with anybody's scope.  If we can put a piece of equipment and a camera on the planet Mars and take pictures and send them down to my computer, then they should be able to build a simple riflescope that will allow me to hunt a deer in the rain, right?

I only changed out that Leupold scope when I discovered a better scope that I gathered up when I bought a used rifle that was wearing the different scope.  As the years went by, Leupold began to get way expensive, I thought. Especially since the scopes had remained the same...only the price tags changed.

I always knew they were still on the dealer's shelves, but I wasn't interested in them: especially at these new ridiculous prices.  This was twenty five years ago.

I don't hate Leupold.  But they are charging Rolls Royce prices for a Pontiac.  We should run a thread about which is the Most Popular Scope in America.  Maybe that's where people get the idea that they are the best.

The only folks that believe us to be anti-Leupold are the ones that believe there is NO other viable alternative at any cost. They are kinda like the people that paid twice as much for a concert ticket, got the same seats as anyone else, or maybe even worse seats. After the concert no one cares who sat where just were you there. The only difference in that analogy and Leupold owners is everyday they see scopes that cost less and are every bit as good to remind them of where at the concert they sat.
Anti Leupold????? Hardly....... You're in the game, just spending more to play.

Leupold is a good scope that is over-priced.

I voted like the majority, for #2!.............For my 375, the 1.5-5x20 VX3 w/German #4, is just about as perfect a DGR rifle scope imo as you can get!

It is extremely durable, light weight, looks great, has great fov`s, excellent eye relief and is very fast to the target. The magnification range on the low and high end, is as perfect for the .375, in any hunting situation that a .375 could possibly be used for. And its optics, while not being the absolute best, are more than adequate to successfully deliver the goods.

Each individual rifle, caliber and cartridge needs the best match for a scope. In my individual case, this particular Leupold was the best choice and offered the best overall features and compromises.

to quote Cyborg "You're in the game, just spending more to play."

I have three 2.5-8's and a fixed handgun 2x --and they have proven to be  rugged, reliable good looking scopes ..but coulda saved a buck or two with optically equal or better alternatives

Curious to see how their upcoming line will price out

I have three of them.  But I'm not married to the brand, as I also have a Monarch and a couple of Sightrons.  I almost always use Leupold as a "price baseline" when comparing other  brands to make sure I'm getting a decent deal; regardless of the maker.

I own a couple of Leupolds, but since the internet and the ability to research more options it is easy to find a GOOD QUAILTY SCOPE made by other companys.  As of today I have 10 different scopes from 125.00 up to 1000.00. My favorite's are 2 Bushnell's Elite 4200 6x24x40 mounted on Rem 700 Sendero's 22-250 and a 204, but these are my favorite varmint guns also....

I have owned Simmons,Redfield, B&L,Bushnell, Weaver and of course Leopold. My rifles are carried extensively in scabbards on horseback and quads, dropped down mountains crushed in between trees etc.etc. Nothing stands up as well as the Leopold. No matter what you do to it, it maintains its sight in. I have had it smashed so hard I looked at the ends to see if there was any glass left and it has never changed point of impact. All the others either broke externally or internally . Mounted on a .338WM. With all the grief the others have given me I just can't buy anything else. Worth every penny as far as I am concerned.
